I saw him a few years ago at The Brook in Southampton with Wilko Johnson, the Hamsters & Norm, the bass player from the Blockheads.
He was absolutely superb.

Saw him there too, about 10 - 15 years ago (?) with Wild Willy Barrett - brilliant!

Not many bands have a wheelie bin as part of the "instrumentation"............  Shocked

Maybe it was the same gig!
He played a crazy drum solo by putting drum pads in his pockets & beating himself up! The guitarist with him played while stood on top of a stepladder, before somersaulting off the top onto the stage -while still playing.
Absolute nutters, but great entertainment Smiley

I'd forgotten all about him. If I can get the channel I will record it. Cheers.

The drum-pads 'song' would have been Body Talk.

Somersaulting from the stepladder? Sounds like that would have been John himself, probably during his version of You ain't Seen Nothin' Yet (originally done by Bachman Turner Overdrive / BTO)

Couldn't record John Otway in the end as I didn't have that channel.  Sad  Was it any good?

Apparently made by the fans (fan club?) and although IMHO interesting, prob more so for the fan club members.
Worth recording if you get the chance.

So what's the current record?
And do they have to keep the original 4 wheel drive set-up, or can they just drop a tractor body onto a race car?

Guy Martin’s Great Escape

Sun 8th Dec 2019

Ch4  9pm

Guy attempts a re-creation of the motorcycle jump from the film The Great Escape, but with the difference that he wants to clear both fences.

It’s worth noting that although Steve McQueen had the lead role of Hilts (who stole the bike etc etc), it was his good friend Bud Ekins who performed the jump sequence.

McQueen & Ekins worked together in the film Bullitt, most notably during the car chase as the guy on a motorcycle takes a tumble is Bud, whislt McQueen’s character waits and looks over his shoulder waiting for the poor motorcyclist get to his feet before chasing after the Charger.

The story of the Great Escape motorcycle side of things from the Bud & Dave Ekins website
https://www.budanddaveekins.com/the-great-escape-jump/

Back in 2009, The Sunday Times did what was titled as a renactment of the (single) jump using a Meriden Triumph twin which is considerably closer to the film bike than the machine used in Guy's programme
