Message from Deadly Derek the diner truck guy:

Thorney Island airbase, (near Hayling Island, Hants). 18th July.
Static car & bike show combined with the families' day for the base. Families Day doesn't start til 1.30, so we're getting cars in from 10.30 -midday & they are 'on show' til 4pm, (earlier if it piddles with rain!).
Families Day has arena events, beer tent, band....£5/person entry with profits to SSAFA, (services charity). We're hoping to 'build bridges 'with Thorney for the future!

We need reg no & driver name

Thorney Island was used for drag racing back in the late 60s/early 70s. Apparently if this event goes well, there's a chance they may allow 1/8 mile racing on the runway again next year.

We (the Sprint Section of the VMCC, Vintage Motorcycle Club) got in touch with the guys at Thorney Island back around 2012 with the aim of running ACU-permitted twin-lane 1/4 mile motorcycle sprinting.
Following a lot of "behind the scenes" work, we ran our first event. Our pre-meeting organisation and efficiency at running the event was so successful that we went ahead and did a couple more.

The runway we used had large grassy areas to the sides (bit like Blackbushe) and plenty of braking area, just what we needed, and no noise restrictions apart from when the church service was taking place.

Great! Every chance they'll allow cars too then!  Smiley
I mentioned it to my brother Mr Brock, who belongs to the Wild Bunch drag racing club. He's never raced there but other members of the club have. Apparently there was a ridge halfway down the runway that caused a few hairy moments in the past.
Never been there myself, but I plan to vary my events this year & take in as many new ones as I can.

An event flier from Derek.
Places are limited, so if you fancy somewhere different, let him know soon cos it's on MOD property & they need vehicle registration numbers & driver/rider names for access on the day.

We are now allowed a lot more cars & bikes! And entry is a little bit earlier...between 9.30 & 11.30....pm me your car details if you want to come. We have Amy Baker (50's swing singer) doing a few turns & the family day in the adjacent field has arena events and stalls....should be a good day  Grin

Hey Guys,

the army are letting us in earlier to thorney, so entry window is now between 9.30 & 11.30am. Its pre entry only & entries close on 13th July as the list has to be handed in.

We have Amy Baker singing some 50's swing, trophies & prizes donated by Reading Harley, American Autoparts & Reel Vehicles. The base has a families day in the fields next door, with arena events, beer tent, stalls etc.

PM me your reg number, make, mode, colour & driver name. Bikes are welcome too. Drivers will need I.D. on the day. Hope some of you can join us!
