Axle, Which Way Up?

Hi Manksters, Fitting a Reliant Axle to my Honda Deauville 650. The drive shaft is on the near side. Question is which way up does the axle go? Do I need to flip it?

I think you have to flip it over as the drive shaft is on the n/s. but check the dive shaft rotation on the bike.
on the gl the shaft is on the o/s so don't need turning over

Hi Terry, Thanks for the reply. After posting I found a good thread on here on the very subject. Also suggested you are able to turn the crown wheel round in the diff casing. I have the axle in bits at the moment, so will check out this option. Decided to shorten axle on one side to bring drive in-line. Reducing overall by 4" should do the trick. I've mocked up and like the look of axle at 48" (1220mm). This is with the tyres on.

Be careful, you can only flip the diff in the axle on the 3 piece axles.
Nothing wrong with flipping the whole axle though.

Won't it leak oil from the breather hole usually on the you of one tube?

Yes will have to weld breather hole and re drill if axle is flipped over.
