As Olds says early axle,
The wheels look big enough 15ish.
And Mrs stinkey looks lovely as always,
And ov course the trike looks good. Grin

Should be good for 75 -80 ish. What diameter wheels have you got on the back?
The wheels are 15 inch tall and I'd say the tyres are about 27/28 inch tall ?

Mine used to average about 24". 15" rims with 50 profile tyres. Taller tyres should give you a higher top end though, although if you go too tall you'll struggle to pull away & will lose acceleration.

Seems to pull away ok, but Martin said it's struggling on the hills and top end is 60 mph  ?   So I thought a set of higher gears would help the top end ?  I was hoping the taller tyres would have helped ?

Not being rude or nowt, but my son reckons my 600kg. kit car is flat ! He weighs in over 18stone, I weigh in at a trim 13 stone, the difference in pulling with that 125 bhp car is very noticeable when he is in it.

Other way round really as the torque produced by the Reliant is the deciding factor in what it will pull. Using 24/25" tall tyres on the Reliant gearing reduces 4th  gear to an overdrive really. Essentially with 28" tall tyres you have added 3mph per 1000rpm to the gearing. That is slowing down the acceleration  and adding about another 1/2 a gear to each gearbox position.

My trike will pull very strongly in first second and third and will reach just about 80mph in 4th. If it had that same gearing with the original Reliant body on it that acceleration and top speed would be greatly reduced. 'You' are creating the same effect by asking the engine struggle to pull in each gear.

Roughly mine is geared to 5mph /1st 10mph/2nd 15mph/3rd and 20 mph/4th . You'll be looking at 8/ 13/ 18/ 23 so you can see how far out the gearing is by comparison.

If you look at these details on Fifers site you'll see how far out the gearings are against a standard Reliant ie my gearing is 80 mph at 4000 , standard Reliant 4500 , 'your' gearing 3480 roughly.

Got round to martins today..and found he'd fitted new lower profile tyres, and they've helped..cheers guys..met him later down at Poole quay..he said the trike overheated a bit by the time he arrived there, drew lots of attention and questions..he left just after 8 pm..got two hundred yards up the road and it cut out..seems like it was the starter motor solenoid ( again ?)
