And so to the rear axle - my Haynes manual tells me "the left hand axle tube has a breather hole to prevent pressure build up which could damage the pinion shaft oil seal". Mine seems to be leaking and, having removed all the rust and crud I can't find it! There have been some brackets welded on so these might have covered it. Can anyone tell me exactly where I should be looking and the approx diameter of the hole? Many thanks, Ian  |

Looked at an old tube and it was 170mm from the diff housing and about 2mm diameter.

What is it on, Reliant or bike engine trike, it may have been turned over for wheel rotation just gone back through previous posts and seen its on a reliant trike |

I usually modify it and fit a small diameter breather/filter. If nothing else I think it looks the part  |

Looks good Pete - unfortunately I've two damn great lumps of boxed brackets there, so will have to find somewhere else to locate it. While I'm here has anyone run a Reliant engined /radiatored trike without a fan. I'm wondering if the engine, being out in the fresh air, actually needs it? Just trying to sort everything out in my mind as I start rebuilding. It previously had a radiator/fan from a Triumph Sprint triple but the inlet/outlet pipework was horrific so I'm thinking of an aluminium Reliant rad from Brook Street Garage on Ebay. You're learned thoughts are welcome |

Thanks IanH A breather could be mounted anywhere along the upper portion of the axle tubes. Best not put it on the diff housing as the oil might get thrown out when its going round. I used a mini rad, all aluminium with 40% more capacity, from china via ebay. Cant find link at the minute but Ive seen them for around £50 delivered. Good luck with build  |

Even with a Mini/Reliant rad, you will still need a fan though. |
