Wow, thanks guys! Hadn't occurred to me to look for a tutorial. Even ham fisted me should be able to do that. And to think I actually binned the other camera body because the local camera shop told me it wasn't worth repairing!

Andy out of choice if it was me i would use the white spray grease rather than WD40.
As we know WD40 aint what it used to be,It will soon dry out.

Yeah, WD would dry sticky -which is just what it doesn't need. I've entrusted it to Baychimp, who pulls computers apart, (& hopefully fixes 'em), for fun. He's going to watch the YouTube videos then delve inside the case.

Well, Baychimp's verdict is it's "buggered".
The fix shown in the YouTube vids works for half a dozen clicks of the shutter, then the problem comes back. Further trawling of the 'net shows it's only a temporary solution & the whole shutter mechanism needs replacing, which involves stripping the camera completely, unsoldering all the components, replacing half of them & putting it all back together.
So it looks like I need a new camera. Didn't realise how much I use it -I feel lost without one, even just for taking snaps of progress on my truck. Can't afford 400 quid for another Nikon at the moment though & to be honest, it's a pain to lug about when I'm really just taking point n shoot type snaps. Anyone recommend a decent pocket sized digital with good manual zoom & focus, sensible battery life & good picture quality?
I might have a look on Ebay for a second hand D60 just to tide me over for now.
As mine's now basically scrap, we've got nothing to lose, so Mr Baychimp's going to look for a shutter mechanism on the 'net then maybe have a go at fitting it.

Ha ha! Not my phone Terry. Mine cost 15 quid from Tescos & just about makes calls & sends texts. I can't handle a phone that's smarter than I am.

I have a Canon Powershot A1100IS - it takes really great pics, the only downside is the lack of a decent zoom. I still use it sometimes in preference to my Fuji as it's small and easy to put in a pocket. It's pretty old, but there must be something in that sort of line available with a better zoom? This is it with the mug for size...

Andy i've got a Fujifilm finepix s2950 digi,takes a really good pic and does a lot more i can't understand  Brand new they were £200 + got mine cheap a year ago with rechargeable batteries.On Ebay around the £60 mark. |

My daughter is getting rid of a fujfilm finepix S and I have just spoken to her about it she said it takes 4 AA batteries. She said it would be better to use with rechargables, she might have a card for it I'm not sure, she has lost the lead to plug it into your laptop but you should be able to get one of eBay. if you're interested yours for the price of the post

as we're on the subject of cameras my fuji finepix s8000 is taking blured photos and you can see it on the screen before you shoot any one come across this i presume its the image sensor and probably scrap but just wondering,by the way argos have a sale on and a very nice looking panasonic for £99 which i was thinking of buying if this one can't be fixed
