Does anyone have more info on this? I have been talking to the RAC guy's who pickup our broken down RM van's and they have told me it is now illegal to tow a working vehicle using an A frame or an unbraked dollie. I had thought about an A frame to tow my T about as it would be easier than storing a chuffing great car trailer...... but not if it get's me booked!!!!!

Towing with an A frame, requires the towed vehicle to act as a trailer and if over 750 kg that means braked. I believe that all brakes fitted to a trailer even if under 750 kg must work.
I think new legislation and clarification is due later this year.

When I got the trike dolly I scarbbled around for info and somewhere it said thqat it was legal to use it for recovery purposes for up to 50 miles. I thought that was good enough for me as I don't think the coppers would be likely to stop you to find out whether that was the case, they have too much other stuff to do and anyway they don't know what the rules are themselves - as long as all the lights and trailer board etc are 100%, and you're not exceeding the towing speed limit.
I think it's right about larger stuff though.

One of the ACE team specialises in towing laws and license requirements.
It ALWAYS has been illegal to tow an unbraked trailer weighing over 750kg INCLUDING the load. It can be used UNDER 750kg without a legality problem.
Once the dolly and load go over 750kg then it is classed as a trailer and should meet all trailer requirements.
The reason it's getting enforced more is due to many with motorhomes towing cars behind them on dollies.

There are NO laws on trailers here in Malta. You should see some of the crap on the roads. Not long ago i saw a 20 foot dragster on a trailor about 8 foot long. They backed it on & left the front hanging.

I travelled in a taxi in Malta many years ago, (an old Morris I think), that didn't have any doors.
So towing a MMMotors type Reliant trike, (350 ish kg), on an unbraked tow hitch/dolly is legal?

the only way you can tow a none disabled vehicle this way that exceeds 750kg is braked, if disabled it is not considered a trailer so exempt from the braking requirement, http://www.route-one.net/pdf/guide-for-recovery-operations.pdfas an aside the first picture in their flyer is our vehicle. |

You can tow a trike which is not disabled ( as in the trike NOT tax class) which, including dolly, weighs under 750 kg as it is considered a trailer . You are allowed to tow a 750kg non braked trailer  |

Asked a local bobby and he said theres not a problem towing a trike on a front wheel cradle ,he had not been told of any changes
