Hi All,
I thought I would start a thread so I can show some of the things I'll be working on over the coming months.

To start with I've been asked by Looney to take a look at a Caddy tail light that is destined for a bike.
He asked if it were possible to put a spiral of LEDs up the light cone. Before soldering up a bunch of LEDs I decided to try using a light pipe to get the desired effect. I've not used one of these before so I thought it would be a good opportunity to give it a try.

Below is my initial attempt. I didn't have anything to form the pipe around so I did it by hand - hence my spiral isn't a very good spiral! I think its quite a cool effect. I shall be getting some more rod next week and trying the improved Mark 2 version.

I've also just finished making these stools for my sister-in-law to match her 1950s cocktail bar. They are now painted antique white.
The seat pads were made by Julie at Royal Kustoms in Poole.

Them's cool stools. Love the super skinny legs -would they support a chubby Monkey?
Not seen a "light pipe" before -reckon it'd pass MSVA? Can it be used for brakes as well as running lights, or do you need 2 spirals?

It looks skinny, but its all 8mm mild steel and quite a sturdy structure.

I believe some modern cars use light pipes. Do you know the specific rules for msva lighting?
I think the light is bright enough for a tail, but I dont think it'll work as a brake. You'd need a seperate brake light.

Don't know the regs on brightness -or if there are any. So you can't vary the brightness for a brake light? Interesting though.

Its not a very efficient transfer of the light. The Leds are maxed out and only just bright enough for a tail light. I need to have a play to see if I can improve the way it works. Still early days.

Perhaps a theme that could be explored. Very nice. Looks like there might be room in the centre, for a traditional bulb or led replacement.

The plan is to use this as a tail light and then put further LEDs in to act as the brake light. This does fit around the normal bulb, but im worried the heat of the filament brake light might melt the acyrlic. Thats something I need to look into once I can form a nice spiral.

very cool effect, likes it. you could use a double spiral of light pipe and have one for tail light then second spiral come on for brake light maybe.

We have brighter LEDs here and also use light pipes on a few products,
You need to have a look at some off our collection of LED products
