Well out of touch with whats going on with IVA BIVA classic vehicle laws, are there any pending laws that will be implemented that will effect hot rod building in the near future or are we off the hook for now. Kapri mentioned some laws last year that were coming into play but last i heard sounded like there was a stay of execution.
Any chance of a brieff update on the current situation please, and more importantly from my own personal standpoint regarding my Devon with MGB engine project what should i be doing imminently to avoid legislative complications. I am still not in possession of a log book got the Austin counties to support me with the car got some application forms for a log book filled them in, that's as far as it got still in the dresser draw Huh Embarrassed.  What if anything should i be making my priority at the moment please.

Current situation is that the Armegeddon' scenraio legislation has had it's first reading in EU Parliament . It has been referred back to committee to see if further clarification is possible ie granting any leeway to individual members states to define their own take on Historic.

As it stands the general definition is ( paraphrasing as they haven't rewritten into a totally legible form) but " 30 years old , rarely used and standard ". It is highly UNlikely to be retrospective, no legislation ever has been in the past.

However once passed in EU Parliament it will pass into UK law 6 weeks after the results are published We have no idea how it is to be applied but best guess would be the prevention of modified cars being allowed Historic reg from that date on BUT there is no other class for them to enter ?! IE If already on the system fine but if needing a Historic identity to gain a registration they would not be allowed . The current Historic wording would also disallow rebodying ( totally different to 8 points system) unless the mods were 'Contemporanious' .

Likewise best guess on date of second vote would be sometime around March next year.

My suggestions to everyone has been get car into Historic as soon as possible and also get the engine change details onto the V5C asap . This is obviously made a lot simpler by pre 60 vehicles no longer needing an MOT to register Smiley
