Hmmmm, perhaps I shouldn't show this then.
My daughter purloined the badge, so had to do another. This time I used an old shilling and it etched much better. The background was filled with a translucent yellow resin.

Just purely out of interest, could you etch lettering or symbols onto metal knobs such as, oh I don't know, the switches on my truck dashboard?
