Think they should be 4 thou. the reconditioner told me about that, and said he would make sure that they were ok. They look ok to me on inspection.

dont know,he rebuilt the bottom end and pistons. All the pistons, when checked at top of bore have roughly the same amount of side play movement (very small)

i expected to see ,cross hatching,  honing marks on the bores  Roll Eyes Roll Eyes but the blob marks dont look good  could be hard bits in the liner,== poor quality  Shocked

The cross hatching is there in all 4 bores,as I say, couldnt get a good pic.

My plan is to take it back to themm to see what they say. Im very reluctant though,as they may not tell me if its their workmanship at fault! I will at least get the liner and piston replaced. Although talk at the moment here is to go to another reconditioner...Im between a rock and a hard place!
I went to them as they are 2 older guys in a old established firm,so I thought they would know their stuff! Ive since heard that they have had probs with at least one other trade customer as well.
I want it to be right for whoever buys it.

My sentiments entirely mate! Im into this one for about a grand,so its a hard pill to swallow!I really did think I was doing the best thing by having it reconditioned,so that it would last a long time.I'll try to source one........

Well, you do have some rights here. Its not unreasonable to expect it to do what they said it would. Who sourced the parts they fitted?

Only two things that I can think of to make rough radial marks with spotting would be a rusty liner that someone has tried  to clean up with emery when honing didn't do it, or possibly ring chatter, but chatter wouldn't explain the spots. Difficult to say without seeing them.
The apparent running richer on 3 & 4 could simply be down to slightly worn valve guides.
The fact that you are pulling out clumps of liner sealant suggests the rebuild was not done with great care. A lump of sealant that got loose could  block a waterway in the head. Might be worthwhile blowing out the waterways with an airline.
Good luck mate.
