the link was just fot referrence on how to check a pump. you said yours was .50mm if you read it fifer say no see-able gap.
i can see a gap of .50mm Huh

Hmmm...I thought that too,but even the brand new never fitted one which is supposedly a reliant gennie part has .50mm,so I thought it must be ok. Tried to get hold of partsworld,phone out of order.

The vanes have to be close to the wall but not touching to allow for any slight play .

If they were touching they would wear the ends down .
Have you tried it with the fan removed completely ?

 Cant get mechanical fan on as no space. Its all in bits on the floor ,so cant try owt at the moment!
 Think its gotta go up for sale soon as just cant be bothered any more! Ive taken a really big liking to the cutting wheel in the grinder!

mine makes little difference with leccy fan(wherever its mounted) or normal fan fitted,
thermostat ok? check it in boiling water etc, and check in the rad that its flowing,cos my mates reliant had similar symptoms, it was a faulty new thermostat,
if the water is flowing round when warm ok (check it with another reliant?)its something warming it up too much, the engine!
bigger fans/rads arnt the answer. its something else, cos mine doesnt need them.

The only thing I havent checked is the head gasket,but TBH,I'm not going to go there ! Ive had enough!
 Thermostat replaced,same symptoms.

thought id mention the stat as theres a lot of faulty ones about, especially reliant ones, micheals of selbys had quite a few


if i was near enough , id come give you a hand, id love  to see yours running after all this, these things are sent to test us mate, av a week off from it,,,,

Yeah,think we may b****r off over to France for a few days in the kit car!(which,incidentally, has started overheating,would you believe?) This is one of those probs that really gets to you,and you have to be the one to find the answer first!
 
 Oh and BTW ...We went to Tennerife last Friday,and was leaving at 1.30 pm. "I'll just go for another trike test run" says I. I ran out of petrol on the bypass at 11.30 am! Talk about panic! lol!

last thought,
good round town, low /medium revs, runs cool,
on a run, higher sustained revs, gets hot,
timing, or advance sticking?

is the dizzy the wrong one with the wrong advance?

landy and mini ones look the same but arnt the same inside,
and cause the timing to be out after the weights move out

Think I will have to pull the engine to do the head,cant remember! No not doing it!Someone will get a bargain if I sell it! Cry
 
Thought of that! Timing is original dizzy(thats not to say its the right one though) with elec ignition,modified base plate as per fiferism! Have reset timing a couple of times,but it doesnt like anything but where its at now. I'll go and suck the diaphragm to check its moving.
 It runs sweet at a steady 50/55 mph,not missing,although I am getting paranoid about the engine sound and maybe it does very,very, occasionaly once in a blue moon, miss a beat
 
 UPDATE...Just sucked the black pipe..oooohhhh! Base plate is moving freely and returns easily.

It the head gasket was gone it would show up on a cylinder head test witch you have had done. or there will be oil in the water, water in the engine.
Rod before you let your self loose with the disc cutter  Shocked.
you seem to have checked tested and done nearly every thing possible.
one more thing to do is put it all back together and (give it to me Wink ) no ok.  Try this clamp the byepass hose off from pump to cylinder head thermostat housing so forcing the water around the engine may even try clamping the other one off as well so all water movement is in the engine
