Lucas 45D4 distributor

Having a senior moment here.
The cam on my distributor is not secured and can move upwards to the point that the rotor is hitting the four electrodes. I can remember that the 23D has a screw down the centre but for the life of me can't remember what is supposed to secure it on the 45D. Have some vague recollection of either a c clip or a plastic collar.
Either way, something is missing.

OK Took off the distributor, gave it a good shaking and think I've found it! God only knows how it ended up down in the distributor body
Now only thing is to work out which way up it's supposed to fit.

That's what I thought when it fell out but it's not the same as the one on the points. It was a nice tight fit on the spindle that comes up through the centre of the cam and when pressed in, clicked into place allowing 2mm or so of vertical movement.

Flange first. If you fit it the other way there is still a lot of movement. Never pulled one of these apart so not sure how it's supposed to be assembled. Without the collar the cam was free to move up, held down only by the cap.
For all I know the collar should be the other way up with a spring under it. But it works so that will do.
