Wikipedia said this on the 260

The LV8 was a 260 cu in (4.3 L) version produced from 1975-1982. It produced just 105 hp (78 kW) and 205 lb·ft (278 N·m).

But if you search further they seem to talk about the 260 and the 455ci  in the same vein. so if its a bore and stroke or both swap to get to 455 i have no idea. You say you have worked on yank v 8s i have never touched one.  Well a rover but they are kind of british with a yank grandad on the mums side.

The electric water pump as more pluss points than negatives,  No belt to wear create friction lose hp and torque, the manual pump does all the wrong things at all the wrong times ticking over in trafic red hot day its running slow not circulating fast to aid cooling, yet if its on a motorway long road its turning fast as the engine rpm is high so its dragging power as it turns the pump at high speed and over cooling at times because the air is flowing through the rad nice and a over exuberant mechanical pump is not a brilliant feature and obviously geared sized to offer adequate if not perfect circulation.
The Electric pump like tries to get the optimum temperature an engine needs and keeps it there for a bigger part of the work cycle the engine is made/ used to work at.
Again its how the pump is controlled through stats switches etc that make the big improvements with an electric water pump.
I suppose it could be said non of the above is necessary and a good old belt driven mechanical is fine and reliable, where as an electric water pump could fail.  But so can mechanical s at times, over all this lad thinks its a pluss and if it makes 1 hp over a mechanical its one more free hp at the expense of in your case nothing, thats another pluss. Leave it on.

Loads of torque and bugger all bhp, typical of most post '73 yank engines which were all strangled to meet emission specs.

Get them to rev and you'll have more than enough power. My mates 3.8 V6 Buick was 100 bhp at 4000 rpm ,was like hitting a brick wall at 4000 . Decent cam , inlet and 4 barrel sees it producing best part of 200 bhp  and revving ...well as much as you dare basically , seen it at 6500 and still pulling.

Torque is king on the street really though .

I think nitrous is the best option, it will be cheaper than trying to get gear over from ammerica. You only have to go to Armthorpe and see Trev Longfield he is the lad near here for nitrous the wizard of noz  Smiley Or TMC trevs motor cycles as he used to be. He is only three miles off me and 25 off you, its the way to go i think.
