What is the grey called etc ( for future reference ) ? It used to be called ' Crac-a-lac' back in the 70's but haven't seen it about for ages . Whats is the pait type as everything has changed in aerosols anddrying times are forever compared to solvent based ?

See what you mean about the grey, there would be more contrast if it was darker, but it looks pretty good the way it is!

cheers the paint is made by a German company and is called montana crackle spray. you have to use one of their other colours underneath then put the crackle over the top and let it do its thing. here is a link to the place i got it from and there is a short video on using it etc. https://www.graff-city.com/spray-cans-c128/effect-sprays-c149/montana-crackle-effect-spray-paint-pp196the problem i have had is that it looks like some of the paint has not gone of fully before i lacquered it and is still moving under the lacquer. i did carry out some tests before doing the actual job but i can only thing that i done a few extra coats and the warehouse temperature was a bit cooler and didn't cook the paint off so much . some of it is still soft now . waiting a bit longer to see if it all goes off fully before stripping it again. when i do it again i will give the paint more time to go off before putting on the lacquer.

Nice effect Craig. Happened to me when I don't want it to, on the headlamp shell when using the wrong primer. Looks like you are correct about it not having cured before applying the lacquer. It may take a long..... long time to harden now, as the lacquer will have sealed the solvents in. Think all you can do is leave it in the sun and hope, or strip and repaint.

cheers olds and you seem to be right on one count. the good news is all this sun has helped the paint go off. i cant push it around with my finger anymore. so the system/technique is good to go again. just need to decide whether to just strip the tank or the whole lot and change the colour

I feel your pain with paint that takes forever to go off Craig. I'm not touching my truck chassis for a week now, while I go on holiday. Hopefully I can cut it back when I get back. I like your colour scheme.
