Fifers site shows the cylinder should be at the BOTTOM.

That's would probably be the Kitten. Different wheel cylinder ( 2 piston ) and hand brake arrangement. But I think the position of the cylinder is  unimportant as long as it is free to slide in the back plate ( don't secure the brake pipe too close ) and the hand brake cable is run to suit.
A lot of folk don't realise that the cylinders should slide and that short flex hoses would be better but were probably omitted because of cost.

thanks to all who replied ,i think i'm going to try them with the extended lever and see how they feel and i'll report back in due course once the brakes have fully bedded in etc so thanks again one and all plus i got some bike bits to be going on with !

Good luck with it mate.As Morag mentioned, it should stop quite well compared to the standard Reliant.Mine has discs on rear and 2 big discs on front, no servo, and definitely STOPS QUICK! I fitted a adjustable balance valve as well.

cheers Rod it probably stops better than i imagine but i'm used to a jap car which has brakes sharper than a pin and a caddy that i drive everyday which has fair old anchors if a little keen on the abs!
