Lot of work, but worth while in the end, I think.

Still more to cut off yet, Kev!!

So, still removing stuff, but seeing the light at the end of the tunnel for the rear end now.
Cut out roughly the boot floor. This is it next to the replacement going in.

Then clean up the main “chassis” members ready for the replacement floor.

There are a couple of small repairs to carry out on the ends, and doing them now will make the whole job easier.

Now, the chassis end pieces have been replaced with good metal and the rear ˝ cross member spot welded back on.

As this car may well tow our Portafold caravan, I decided to add some strength to the rear. So made an internal cross member, out of 2mm wall 2” x 1” box. To that welded some turned spacers and side link pieces.

Now the ready to fit boot floor, with a coat of epoxy primer.

And spot welded into position.

And now the battery box support sides and the rear spring hanger support plate. All the inside of box sections have been painted with red oxide.

The exhaust manifold has been welded up, sanded off and polished.

That’s all finished now, until final assembly.
The rear end bodywork has now been cleaned of all its surplus seams and has gone of to the media blasters, should have it back next Thursday.

No, you just need to keep focused on the end result.

Didn’t want to do anything too taxing or strenuous today (31 degrees in the end), so I decided to make an engine. This would move the project on and also get rid of the growing mountain of cardboard boxes that housed various parts.
So, start with a block that’s been checked and bored.

And a crank that’s been ground, polished and balanced.

Put them together, then add some pistons and rods.

Add a Piper “automatic grind” camshaft.

Bolt on a new timing chain set and tensioner.

Fit an oil pump and the sump, and finally cover it all in BMC green.
