Think Kev (Kapri) hinted at something a while back in the no mot for pre 60's vehicles.

i was talking to a guy at the mot testing on sat, he said the no mot ruel is coming in affect for pre 60 vehicals, but what people hadnt been told was every 2 years there was a different type of check they would have to have and the cost£500 Shocked
he said you could still opt to mot and avoid the 2year check, so if this is true it all seems pretty point less, not sure about the tax ruel but may be looking for an older car if tis true Wink

i heard some thing similar not the 2yr thing. but pre 60 car will have a mileage limit. and must be unmodified. no wide wheels or flash resprays
bog standard.
also any vehicle that has been altered. engine wheels axles will have to be looked at and have a separate test. lets see what they do bring in

I can't find anything about the pre Jan 1st 1973 tax exemption rule changing. Plus, I have not heard any of those things you mention other than, like all vehicles, even with an MOT, exempt vehicles must be safe and roadworthy. I know this has been discussed elsewhere on Manky, but here are links to the government paper and its associated press release.

Kev, (Kapri)'s involved with ACE, (the Association of Car Enthusiasts), the car equivalent of biking's MAG or BMF.
He'll know if anyone does, but isn't available at the moment. I've emailed him for a definitive answer.

Hi all, mixture\ of half truths , rumours , chinese and downright b*ll*cks in all that lot Smiley

First off , you want to know what the truth of anything is  then checkout www.the-ace.org.uk . Part of the reason for setting up is to provide one stop TRUTH with links to FACTS.

Pre 60 Exemeption MOTs . Set to go ahead 13th of November. All pre 60 vehicle details will be removed from VOSA database. Any MOT undertaken will be unofficial and not recorded on the database.

The Regulatory ImpactAssessment  was total crap, didn't take into consideration number plate dealers or frshly imported pre '60 vehicles. We ( ACE) have spoken with Number plate Association and DVLA and they have no idea what they are doing about any of it.

Rolling tax. Not going to happen, numbers have already increased from 220,000 ( when first introduced ) to 330,000 with numbers increasing 4-5000 per year. Unaffordable but peope still keep starting petitions to try.

Historic Staus ( as opposed to Tax Free Historic) is being reviewed and pressing for standard across Europe of 30 years old .Definition states must be STANDARD . Various parst of this are on the ACE site , type FIVA in the search box and you'll see what is going on and the attempts to get them to listen.

We are currently allowed modified Historics under the DVLA 8 points rules ( also on ACE) . IF standard only comes into place HUGE problems for existing legal vehicles.

Sorry for bulletin points but trying to summarise 5 years team  work !!

PS , also insurance companies still undecided about whether they will insure non MOT cars but need\to notify there customers by Septemeber 13th latest ( by law) . Talk is premiums will rise  but possibly they will require specialised test by say RAC or AA costing around £200- 250, so much for saving £50 on an MOT.

Thanks for that Kev.

So, pre 1960 vehicle details will be removed from the VOSA database.
What exactly does that mean? That they no longer officially exist? That there'll be no record at all of who owns what, or what vehicle has which engine number, chassis number etc? Does that mean carte blanche to fit whatever you like to an old car or bike & claim it's been like that for years, honest, subject to it passing a new, more expensive, commercially supplied MOT type test?
Sorry, just curious!

Removed from VOSA database only NOT DVLA . They run two seperate databases so that the MOT serves as an identity chcek for DVLA, all part of the Anti Car Crime Initiative first announced about 8 years back.

Currently you cannot transfer a number plate from a MOT exempt vehicle. Likewise you currently  NEEED an MOT to obtain registration for an old / resurrected / imported vehicle not currently on DVLA database . DVLA don't know how they are going to deal with this ..surprise surprise!

So it's fingers crossed.
