Just an observation that might help someone, but Im sure you more experienced bike people will know this anyway,so apologies for ramble! Grin ....FIT A FUEL FILTER
When I fitted my electric petrol pump it advised fitting an inline filter between the tank and pump.I fitted a transparent plastic bodied one. Today I was draining the tank to refill it and make a depth gauge as I filled it with measured amounts.I also wanted to check whether there was any obstruction as I felt the engine intemittently needed more fuel at some revs .
The Harley type tank valve also has a filter poking up into the tank. I removed the tank valve to check the inside filter,it was clean. The mesh is very fine and there isnt a split in it to let any big particles through.
BUT... the inline filter mentioned earlier looked a little dirty inside,I thought it was because it is in shadow under the tank. I removed it and it was really choked up with gritty particles, which Im assuming to be from the grinder when I was building the tank and also when I slit it to insert a baffle after I had run it on the engine. At the time, I washed the tank out several times, and thought it was clear. So it just goes to show how handy a fuel filter can be
I'll just go and ramble outside now!

I'm fairly sure my trike could do with an inline filter but there just isn't room to fit one!

Definitely worth fitting. A couple of quid for a filter can save an awful lot of hassle & expense later.

ive got one before the fuel pump on mine same as rod i recently drained the tank to seal after a seam leek, had a new fuel tap on brought when i got the tank the filter on this is spotless, however my inline filter looks like toilet water after a non flushed floater has been swiming threr all night, i got a pkt of two for £3 so i changed it today when i refitted the tank, agree with mm why risk having to strip the carb(s) for the sake of a few nuggets Wink
