now i,v got a dilemma  which engine/box/diff  to run  Roll Eyes

rebuilt, rebored 1300cc crossflow thats in the photo,s with the early type (fixed bellhouseing) g/box and a 4.1 diff in an escort axle

                                                                 or

a 1600e cortina lump that was rebuilt sometime ago on a 711m block not used for awhile but bench run a couple of yrs ago with a later cortina box and the escort axle and 4.1 diff
or with a cortina mk2 axle believed 1600e not sure of diff ,,not checked ratio yet

                              ideas / input  please
most parts above will interchange /mix+match to a degree  Wink

I would go with the 711m block, they were a sort after block back in the day. we used to have um bored out to a 1725 with a fast road rally cam. They were good strong engines and if it is a 1600E back axle fit that with it.
If only cars were that simple today, oh well we can dream.
Good luck with it.

the 1300 is a 711m aswell

the block codes were      711m AA =1300cc         and    711m BA =1600cc

according to your measurements its 45 litres. 9.8 gallon.  you can use a 1600xflow with a 1300 head to get some good accelaration going, sounds wrong but its true

45 litre,s  at approx £1.40 a litre               =   £63  i,ll never have the cash to fill it  Roll Eyes Roll Eyes  best make it a bit smaller   Wink Wink

as for 1300 head on 1600 block i,v seen it done i used to build engine,s for  F2 stock cars  2litre pinto,s were limited tuning  and raced against 1300cc crossflow which were allowed almost unlimited tuning  the 13,s would eat the 2litre,s on a tarmac track  by hell theyd ,,,,scream,,, but the 2litre,s were better on shale because on the bottom end torque..
oh happys days they were  Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

i had the 1600 xf 4 speed (dog box is it known as??)in my dutton melos its so much lighter than pinto, it would do about 105/ 110mph but god shed get there fast i had the twin choke down draught on her with a pancake  which i later made an adapter for so i could stick it out the top of the bonnet,i had the  13"superlites with the crome rim, only alloys ive ever brought new.i wish id never sold it, got an a4 printed pic still, its the only one ive got bearing in mind i sold it 8 year ago an ive kept a scabby bit of paper with a pic of it, ile try and scan it and post it up, if i can work the thing out ???im abit enveus and will be following your build mike so plenty of pics Wink
