you see a bike for only £97 but you dont have any money.
you borrow £50 each from a couple of mates so you now got £100
You buy the bike and get £3 change
You give back a £1 to each of your mates and stick the other in your pocket.
So you now owe you mates £49 each which works out to £98 plus the one in your pocket £99 "where did the other £1 go to???"
answers on a postcard as I cant work it out  Embarrassed

Run the problem in reverse, you borrow £100 off two people. Immediately return £1 to each, you have £98 in your pocket, owing £49 to each of the original guys, pay the £97 asking price for the bike, and you now have the bike, plus £1 change in your pocket.................simples!!......( the bike should have only cost each "loaner" £48.50,of course!)

So what you`re actually saying is that if you weren`t a money grabbing sod and kept the pound for yourself then the equation would have worked?  Grin Grin Grin Grin

Money owed is just that Cab! you cant reduce a debt by pocketing the payments!!!maybe if successive incumbents of that exclusive London club,'The Commons' had remembered this simple adage, we, as a country, would not be in the mire we now find ourselves!! ho, hum...... Morrag

I actually wrote this out as a mathematical equation from start to finish as it was written and it still came out at £99. Grin Grin Grin Grin
