I'm not religeous in any way, or pro war -or even anti war, but I do think those who are willing to give up their lives for the rest of us deserve the utmost respect & their sacrifice remembered, even if it's only once a year.
So I was very proud to take part in our village's Remembrance Day service today.
Taz is a volunteer standard bearer for the women's section of the Royal British Legion -we live next door to the Legion hall so she used to socialise there, (long before I came on the scene), & was asked to help out cos they were short of people. She's been marching for them every year since & does a great job. For my part I've been roped into donning a dayglo bib over my suit & walking at the head of the veteran's parade, along the village high street to the local church -basically cannon fodder to protect the rest of them from the traffic.
This year we had a Police escort, plus a couple of guys from a Napoleonic re-enactment group who hold events on the country estate where Taz works.
As I said, I'm not religeous, but I'm happy to stand in church & sing Jerusalem & the National Anthem for those that gave up everything. I think it's a small price to pay.
