Hawker Hurricane 75th Anniversary Celebration

To celebrate the first flight of a Hawker Hurricane, which took place at Brooklands in 1935, there will be talks in the Wellington Hangar and aero-engines will be run (subject to serviceability). For the first time, The Museum's Hurricane 11A Z2389 will be unveiled with its engine and propellor in position.

At lunchtime there will be a flypast by a Hurricane XII from the Historic Aircraft Collection (subject to weather and serviceability). This is expected to be at approximately 1pm, but watch this space for an update on the exact timing.

The timetable for the day is as follows:
10.00 Museum opens. Throughout the day rarely seen archive images of Hurricanes will be shown in the Wellington Hangar and there will be music courtesy of Bob 'Hurricane' Webb
11.00 Hurricane Z2389 unveiled by Lord Trefgarne, followed by interviews with Hurricane personalities
12.00 Sopwith Camel aero engine demonstration (subject to weather & operating constraints)
13.00 Hurricane flypast (subject to weather & operating constraints; exact timing TBC)

14.30 Sopwith Camel aero engine demonstration (as above)

Spent a good 20 mins chating with the chap who was in charge of the Hurricane resto/rebuild when at the site a short while ago.
Been visiting the site for many a year and watched the gradual re-construction of their Hurricane as the plane sits in the hangar that Joe Public has access to, so each visit saw a bit more that was done, and sometimes they were fettling (good word that!) with it when we were there.

Some of the guys on the MMM forum talk about “barn finds”, you ought to hear this guy’s story………..

If you like your planes, the Wellington that was raised from Loch Ness many moons ago is also on display, some of the wings and fuselage are skinned, other parts open so you can see geodesic structure (the geodesic construction was devised by Barnes Wallace, he of Bouncing Bomb fame (oh, I think there’s one of those in the hanger too)), along with a separate Wellington fuselage section that the public can walk through to give just a glimpse of the aircrew’s ‘office’.
