Seemed less than the usual number of stalls and punters than usual, not sure why as a warm day too.............

Managed to bump into the guys who we were chatting to at the Pendine (PLRC) motorcycle event in June from Baron's, Pete Allan & Dick Smith. They'd recently come back from Bonneville after running "Epsom Salt" (pretty apt name as Baron's is in Croydon and is only about 10 miles Epsom).
Some intersting tales indeed...........

The Epsom Salts bike build and Bonneville expoits are currently being featured in Classic Bike Guide for those that are interested. (last issue, current issue (Aug 2013) and next issue).
The bike features a modified 650cc pre-unit Triumph

I know Rick was going to Kempton but didn't manage to spot him, so maybe next time................

I used to have a mate who had a Hesketh. Nice bike, but lots of mechanical problems as I remember.
Love the café racers, & I keep seeing that XS650 & his mate with the silver chop all over the place lately.

To answer Rick's question about Hesketh being in production:

Short answer is yes, they are kinda in production, have a look at their website for details. New bike has new logo too, not the old cockerel.

I know the guy that bought the old stock of Hesketh wheels many moons ago. If you remember they were the Astralite type. The wheels in Rick's photos (and from the web) are traditional spoked items.

Coincidentally, at the jumble, I was offered some NOS (New Old Stock) Hesketh bits from this same chap - they were part of a 2-into-1 throttle cable body, specifically to allow 34mm carbs to fully open.

http://www.heskethmotorcycles.co.uk/about-hesketh-motorcycles/

From their website:
In 2010, Hesketh Motorcycles was reborn under the new ownership of Paul Sleeman, who relocated the Hesketh headquarters to Surrey, opening a new showroom and specialist workshop in affluent Kingswood. After careful restoration and improvement of the original V1000 and Vampire models, Paul created the new Kingswood V1000 in 2012 and of which only 5 bespoke machines were ever produced.

With a vision for an all new Hesketh machine bringing the marque firmly into 2013, the original V1000 and Vampire models will finally cease production after 31 years. The new Hesketh machine will shortly be announced to the world and a bright new chapter in the history of Hesketh will begin.

The original logo, and the new one.

The original Hesketh motorcycle was formed by the same Lord Hesketh that founded his own Hesketh Formula One Grand Prix team back in the 1970's gave James Hunt his first drive in F1.

Lord Hesketh was also President of the BDRC (British Racing Drivers Club)

As we were about to leave, the chap on the XS650 had tried to start it but it kept on misfiring so his pal on the silver chop took it up the car park to teach it a lesson, having gone as far as Kempton station having had a good misfire thrashing, the Yam was having none of that Undecided Undecided Angry

Chatted to them at the Chelsea Cruise a while ago. He's got the same Amal carbs & manifolds I'm fitting on mine. Said it ran fine. There was another one, built by Attitude Customs, at Wheelsday back in the Spring. Also fitted with the same carbs & manifolds. We watched him trying to get it running for a good 20 minutes. Wondering if I'm doing the right thing with my carbs now!

One of the things that the "round the world" riders (typically Triumph with original amal fitment) have said for a while, is to replace the amals with mikuni round slides, such as the VM32 or VM34 before they they set off, simply for reliability.

Have also heard of some wear issues on some of the newer carbs/parts.

The mikunis look pretty retro too.

Long term plan is to fit a set of VMs to my excess to replace the CVs.
