Battistinis 2010 Open Weekend Party - Bournemouth 26-27th June

If you are not familiar with Battistinis then think American Chopper and the OCC transplanted in Bournemouth (well kind of  Wink)!  Their open weekend is an annual event but this year finds them in new premises and celebrating 20 years of existence.

Parking is pretty dire (no handy pub car parks to park and drink in this time) but the actual shop is quite nice.  They have teamed up with the Ace Cafe to sell their products plus they have a cafe inside that is supposed to be like theirs.  I can't say I could see that but hey a new cafe in a bike shop with regular live music can't be bad.  They also seem to be branching out into Hot Rods (perhaps they always did and I just wasn't aware of this) so there should be something for everyone.  Entry is also free so can't be bad.

Andy who is often at events selling clothing (most recently at Pete's do at the New Forest) has a space in the shop and though as with most bike shops, the clothing is quite expensive, there is a good variety plus the Ace Cafe stuff as previously mentioned.

The workshop is at the back of the shop but I haven't a photo of this as just as I was going to snap a bike being worked on they rushed up and said no photos (even though I had already obtained permission from Pops Battistini).  It turns out it is a very special bike that no-one can take a photo of until the buyer has seen it.  It was very pretty.  Very pink and called Patience (perhaps it is for one of Take That  Roll Eyes!) with some lovely but very over the top finishing which also made me think it could be for someone in the circus or vaudeville.

The full address is Battistinis Custom Centre, 1172-1180 Christchurch Road, Bournemouth, Dorset, BH7 6DY (phone 01202 437400)

Update
For those of you who are going to this, just a quick update to say that I have spoken to Batts and they have told me there will be quite a bit of parking available for the event.  The road outside the shop will be officially cordoned off with No Parking cones but this is only to stop cars, bikes will be allowed to park there.

Chevy Rick and I went to Batts on the Saturday.  We got down there for about 11:15 and the place was heaving.  They even had the Bournemouth Mayor turn up to officially open the place.  I only saw one other trike but there were loads of standard HDs (as to be expected) but there were also some very fancy bikes there too.  The people who turned up were a very mixed bunch which I think is a good thing and as Rick said to me, it only goes to show what a diverse bunch bikers are.

Two of my mates turned up there which was a nice surprise but generally we didn't see anybody else that we knew.  The Ace Cafe Head Honcho was there to support Batts - I suppose because they are selling Ace Cafe merchandise.

There was plenty going on with a DJ. band, food, burlesque girls but I have to admit I preferred the other location as you got stalls as well and last year I picked up a great bargain with a new seat for a very good price. However, it was fun just to sit back and people watch as well as watch the mayhem outside as traffic tried to get past all the bikes which were now everywhere.

The weather was great.  Batts had to start giving out those kickstand thingies to stop bikes falling over as the tarmac started melting!

I had a great ride there and back home and really enjoyed myself trying to catch Rick up on his Road King while the sun kept me nice and warm.

Rick took plenty of photos so I am sure they will be winging their way to you soon Andy.

Considering he owns legendary biker's haunt, the Ace, Mark's a very quite guy, not the showman/entrepeneur I expected at all. Nice guy.
Looks like a good day out. Keep the photos coming please. Although the photo galleries are offline while we sort out our virus problems, we'll keep them here, ready to upload as soon as we can.
