If anyone is at a loose end this coming Sunday (1st February), the 59 club will be celebrating 50 years at the Ace Cafe.
Originally started as a youth club at the Eton Mission in Hackney, London in 1959, led by the Reverend John Oaks, it was later in 1962 that Father William Shergold, a keen biker himself, decided to hold church services for the motorcyclists.
He finally plucked up the courage and visited the Ace Cafe, handing out leaflets, and instantly there was an immense reaction. The church was full of 'Rockers'. Some even took their bikes into the church to be blessed.
To this day, there is still a strong link with the church, and Father Scott Anderson, a Rocker himself, is on the Management Team!
See you there....................... Janie x
Piccies to follow!
