I never considered the need to flip an axle till a mate built an XS11 trike and upon firing it up for the first time let the clutch out and reversed into the back of the garage!

Oh how I laughed Grin Grin Grin  but he & I had never considered the fact that the prop might go in  different direction. It was ok though as it was not welded to the frame and did not take too long to reverse! Phew  Roll Eyes

                             -how was this possible?

Thank goodness you can flip a reliant diff inside the casing and you don't have to flip the whole axle. I have heard that some types of drum brake (The sliding cylinder type) don't work well 'backwards' which is a good reason to flip them, too

Another missive from Steve. Mate, you need to focus the camera before you press the button!  Smiley

Hi there everyone. Thanks for the feedback on my last post. Another one for you all to see, especially anyone who may make a future mistake as I did through impatience. Picture one, shows where I sheared the heads off the bolts.

Picture two shows a solution -place a nut over the sheared thread and tack weld it onto it. Obviously it needs good fusion, so whack the amps up, heat up the plate but not too much, then it should undo without too much difficulty. While the plate is hot, you could also spray on some penetrating fluid. AC-90, WD40 etc.
