VSCC Driving Tests

Sunday, February 2, 2014

Once again, we welcome the Vintage Sports-Car Club and their annual Driving Tests. Some 60 pre-war cars will tackle a dozen different tests around complicated courses laid out around the historic Brooklands site on Test Hill, the Banking and the Finishing Straight, with drivers competing against the clock while trying to avoid any penalty-attracting mistakes.

As with all VSCC events, the competition boasts an eclectic mix of pre-war cars. Competition will be rife throughout the field with many drivers returning looking to hold on to previous titles while new competitors will be eager to make a name for themselves. Tests will run throughout the day, starting from 10am, with a break for lunch.

Gates open at 10am, non-participating pre-war cars are also welcome to enter via the Campbell Gate and will be displayed in and around the Paddock. Visitor parking is in The Heights off Wellington Way - please follow event signage.

A few shots from the event.

Amazingly the day stayed dry, and there was even some welcome sunshine. We got there just after the site opened, and ended up spending the best part of 5 hours wandering around.

There seemed to be less cars and public than in previous years, guess the weather was a factor in that.

'Babs' was a guest at the museum a couple of weeks earlier, but alas was nowhere to be seen on Sunday.

This gives some idea of the steepness of the banking (basically, at the top, its only just possible to stay standing as opposed to going base-over-appex)
