Good old Wikipedia  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M%C3%B6bius_strip   says the following:

The Möbius strip or Möbius band (UK /ˈmɜrbiəs/ or US /ˈmoʊbiəs/; German: [ˈmøːbi̯ʊs]), also Mobius or Moebius, is a surface with only one side and only one boundary component. The Möbius strip has the mathematical property of being non-orientable. It can be realized as a ruled surface. It was discovered independently by the German mathematicians August Ferdinand Möbius and Johann Benedict Listing in 1858.

I'm guessing the name Möbius / Mobius is a bit unusual (at least in English speaking parts).
So, just wondering if it was used as inspiration in the great Sci-Fi classic "Forbidden Planet", as the chap the spaceship crew finds on planet Altair IV is Dr Morbius............

I'll get me coat!

Morbius is a name use in at least three sci fi areas and never in a good way. Forbidden planet, in Marvel comics as a vampire and in Dr Who as a malevolent time lord.
From not a sci fi geek ( I think  Wink ).
