Title: Bedford Rascal axle
Post by: morrag on September 05, 2008, 05:40:21 PM
I have a 'shortened' Bedford Rascal/Suzuki Carry axle that I would like to swap for a Reliant or similar axle. The axle is complete and as I bought it a couple ofyears ago, already shortened to 38 inches face to face across the 9 inch drums, anybody interested, reason for swap, change of project, nothing new there then!! cheers for now, Morag

I shall check for casting nos. but I believe its 4.11:1, and of course due to the weight, posting is not an option!! it would only be practical to swap with someone only a reasonable distance from where I am in Swansea, cheers, Morrag

5:1 is about right for them....not a lot of cop for a trike though......unless you are going for massive wheels or a very high revving motor

Yeah, I'll go with 5:1, but if anyone is running 16" wheels, or a better than 1:1 top gear, this is a big, strong, axle, just not what I need at this moment, so......

a useful piece of info on that axle you can fit the rear brake set up from a suzuki 413 jeep its a straight swap. you then get a five stud wheel pattern no need to change hubs as the rascal axle pcd is the same bolt fixing as the jeep drums the drum then has 5 studs giving a lot more wheel and tyre choice i did a cx 500 that way using 235 full profile road tyres and the distance between the axle ratio and bike bevel box was 4ins on one full rotation of the bike shaft and one turn of the diff flange made no difference to the bikes performance  ;D

As you were, this partic. Suzuki Carry( SJ410 I believe) axle appears to be a 4.11:1 final drive ratio, which is why I assume it was 'triked origionally, to use with a CX 500 'trike build, so there you go, anyone interested now. Whilst on the subject of axles, has any one got a Reliant rear axle hub they will part with, I have a damaged one on the axle I'm converting to 'Mankey' style disc brakes? cheers Morrag

We've still got a complete axle on "Moo", Taz's donor car. We were going to keep it as a spare but could be persuaded to part with it. Biggest problem is we need to get rid of the complete car -if we take the axle off we then can't move the thing.
Axle 50 quid ish. Complete car, with logbook, minus engine & box, 80. Banger racing? MOT it & flog the "Moo" number plate? Come & take it away.
