Title: Willy's Skorpion Trike Re-build (Restoration ) Poject
Post by: willy on March 25, 2007, 10:50:13 PM
MY TRIKE PROJECT AS I BOUGHT HER

SHE HAS GOT A HONDA CX500 FRONT END AND A SKODA 105s ESTELLE REAR WITH A 1046cc ENGINE

(http://img96.imageshack.us/img96/898/63076707mw7.jpg) (http://imageshack.us)

(http://img152.imageshack.us/img152/2854/45334811bh1.jpg) (http://imageshack.us)

THIS IS THE SAME TYPE OF CAR THAT MY TRIKE STARTED OUT IN LIFE AS ... A SKODA 105s ESTELLE,THIS MODEL WAS BUILT BETWEEN 1977 - 1989 SOME WHERE IN THAT TIME IT CHANGED TO THE ESTELLE 120,130 THEN ON TO 136

THIS IS NOT A TRIKE BUILD, IT IS A RE-BUILD ( RESTORATION ) PROJECT

RIGHT HERE WE GO THEN.....1ST OFF ALL LET ME SAY THAT THIS IS BEING DONE ON A LOW BUDGET,I AM NOT A TRIKE OR BIKE BUILDER,I DON'T HAVE A GARAGE OR SHED TO WORK IN AS YOU'LL SEE FROM THE PICTURES I AM WORKING ON A GRAVEL YARD AT MY MOMS HOUSE,IF THIS ONE GOES OK I WOULD LIKE TO RE-BUILD MORE OR EVEN HAVE A GO AT BUILDING ONE...RIGHT HERE WE GO THEN....THE STRIP DOWN AND RE-BUILD STORY GOT HER HOME,STARTED BY STRIPPING THE CLOCK AND WIRRING,UNBOLTED THE CHECKER PLATE ,THEN TOOK THE ENGINE COVER (BOOT LID) ,OFF ALONG WITH THE SLAM ( REAR )PANEL...THEN GOT TO WORK GETTING THE ENGINE OUT TO STRIP IT DOWN TO REPLACE THE HEAD GASKET AND PAINT IT ,IT CAME OUT EASY,THEN IT WAS TIME TO TAKE THE DRIVE SHAFTS OFF AND GEAR BOX OUT...ONCE ALL THAT WAS DONE I SET TO WORK GETTING THE SUSPENSION OFF, MMM THAT WAS NOT EASY,RUSTY NUTS AND BOLTS EQUAL BRUISED AND CUT NUCKLES FINGERS,YOU KNOW HOW IT GOES.SHOCK ABSORBERS,COIL SPRING THEN SUSPENSION ARM ( EVEN MORE CUTS AND BRUISES )THAT WAS JUST THE LEFT HAND SIDE ( NEAR SIDE ),A FEW DAYS LATER AFTER THE CUTS AND BRUISES HEALLED UP I STARTED TO DO THE SAME ON THE RIGHT HAND SIDE ( OFF SIDE ).AFTER TAKING THE SUSPENSION ARMS OFF I DISCOVERED THE BUSHES WERE NO GOOD AND NEED REPLACING,TRYING TO FIND SOME.I WAS THINKING ABOUT REPLACING THE SUSPENSION ARMS ( BOTH SIDES ),BUT I CAN'T FIND ANY SO I'VE DECIDED TO REFURBISH THEM.THATS IT FOR NOW UNTIL I FIND (GET) THE RUBBER BUSHES.I WILL CARRY ON DOING OTHER JOBS.THERES PLENTY TO DO..L O L..CLEAN AND PAINT THE FRAME,BODY...MMM...ARMY GREEN,BLACK OR BLUE,LOOK FOR OR GET THE SEATS MADE Etc..

ENGINE AND BOX

ENGINE OUT AND ON THE FLOOR

THE GEAR BOX OUT AND ON THE FLOOR

THE SUSPENSION

STARTING TO REMOVE THE SUSPENSION

OK THATS IT FOR NOW,MORE TO FOLLOW AS AND WHEN IT HAPPENS,THANK YOU FOR LOOKING ... Willy

P.S...ANY SUGGESTIONS FOR COLOURS WOULD BE NICE APART FROM ...PINK...THANK YOU

LOCATED SOME NEW BUSHES ''HOPEFULLY'' THEY ARE ON ORDER

Willy.
Back in the 90's Street Machine car mag did a budget build of a skodie. I remember the stud pattern is vw beetle, and that some other mechanicals are similar.
I do not know which years and months it was in as I gave all my copies away some time back.

You don't half get about on the net. I put in Skoda Trike, and its all your stuff.  :)

UPDATE ON THE SKONDA....Right here we go at last ... I have stripped her down even further i was thinking that if i change the rake and put some longer forks on (if possible)..1, it will look better i think and..2, hopefully it will make the front a bit heavier helping to keep the front end on the ground .I have now stripped the front end of ready to alter the rake when i can get someone to cut it and weld it for me as i don't weld. Not sure what front end to use it needs to be from a Honda of some sort so that i can keep the name i've chosen for it (THE SKONDA).I will post some pictures later hopefully...cheers.....Willy

Hi Willy. Go for the beefiest teles you can find to take the weight of half a Skoda hanging on them, or try leading link forks. I'll be interested to see the results.

Hey willy, if the black was similar to "smoothrite" it will be an enamel and you may get a reaction if you overpaint with cellulose or 2 pak. If you are can I suggest a test are first.

Best of luck.

Or a la Twizzle with two fire extinguishers side by side but painted in Nos colours?

Manky....Motorbike engine connected to a reliant axle, want to know if i reverse the axle so the dif points to the back end then put the engine to it what would happen / would it work...cheers

Hmm, you mean rear-mount a normal bike engine? Like the Rewaco trikes?
Rewaco.com    (http://www.rewaco.com/?gclid=CPW2_a6OtZECFQppQgodiA9vdw)
That's a weird one. I guess it'd work. Reliant prop shafts rotate anti-clockwise -the opposite way to most bike engines, so you normally have to flip the axle over to avoid ending up with 5 reverse gears, (yes, I did manage to do that on my first build!). If you mounted the motor behind the axle I guess it'd work. Not sure of the cut of the diff gears though. You might get a lot of backlash, (sloppiness), in the drive, or that whining noise you sometimes get when reversing a car at speed. Biggest problem I can see is that you'd have to mount the engine pointing directly backwards, which would hang a lot of weight out back beyond the line of the axle. No more than a VW engine though. Making it look good, (routing the exhaust system etc), would be a challenge. Or you could mount the engine sideways & hook it up to the trike builders' favourite, an XS Yam bevel box, to turn the drive through 90 degrees.
An interesting idea.

If i use a V DUB engine n box ''instead of the original SKODA engine and box'' and chop the body work down on the rear would i need a sva,i'd only need to make engine / box mounts if i did that. She is already registered, she was registered 25-10-89 on a Q plate....CHEERS...Willy

Title: Re: Willy's Skonda Trike Re-build (Restoration ) Poject
Post by: tazet on March 16, 2008, 10:45:49 PM
Don't think so as all you would change is the engine and as it's already on a Q plate I think you would be ok cose you are not changing it's structure from a trike as that's what I presume it says on the reg document. But best not rely on me I'm only guessing.

The gear box, drive shafts and hubs are different to the ones on the 105s backend but it will all change over..HOPEFULLY.
Glad i've finally got the stuff,i'm well pleased to say the least.

All I know about auto-electrics.

Quote
Auto electrics

Electricity isn't caused by cold fusion, that’s nuts, and forget all that nonsense about magnetic fields and the flow of electrons along a conductor, for it is just that; nonsense, a myth put about by auto electricians to support their lavish lifestyle at your expense. The reality is ... smoke!  When you think about it, it all becomes startlingly obvious – smoke makes all electrical things function, if smoke escapes, the component stops working. For example, the last time you had to grovel under the car to replace the starter motor, didn’t it start smoking before it ceased working? - of course!

The wiring loom on your car carries smoke from one device to another, pumped around the system by the alternator, and when a wire springs a leak it lets all the smoke out and everything stops. Starter motors require lots of smoke to work properly, so they have very thick wires going to them. The battery stores up lots of smoke dissolved in battery acid, which is why they were once called accumulators, until it became apparent that we unwashed home mechanics would twig to the secret. Naturally, if you try to dissolve too much smoke in your battery it will escape through those little holes in the top, which is why those batteries with sealed tops explode when they get too much smoke in them.

With regard to Joseph Lucas and his wrongfully sullied reputation, why is he so maligned? Why are Lucas components more likely to leak smoke than, say, Bosch? Because Lucas is British, and all British made things leak. British motorcycles leak oil, British sports cars leak rain, British brakes leak fluid, and British governments leak military secrets. So naturally,  British electrical components leak smoke!

HTH   ;)

Up-Date

Been busy today, i managed to get the Gearbox and Suspension back in position ''not easy on your own''' but can't bolt it in because it don't fit due to the replacement box being longer. Think i need to cut the bulkhead to make clearence to get it to fit

Pray for a spot of sun.

I'm in the same situation as you. No garage, shed.

I have a whopping great conservatory, full of parts...

At the back of a terraced house!

A colour-
British racing green, the late one, more like the After Eight box colour?
Nice and classy, yet understated. Would look nice with any chrome/ ally or gloss black parts.
Odd little highlight of something in red would lift it out.

Waiting for the next post to start-

"Cleared snow.."

Sorry to hijack the thread, but Pointy -your avatar -is that the Thai national flag? I followed a car in Basingstoke, Hants today that had a plate on the back with the same flag & the words "Ting Tong Taxi".

Quote from The Simpsons:
"Let's eat. You like Thai?"
Homer- "I love tie. You like shirt?"

- Means, Nutty, mental, silly, barmy etc.

Update..8-9-2010

Well a mate of mine Andy ''Streetfighter'' one of the members of my forum ''FREE AS A BIRD - TRIKERS N BIKERS ENGLAND'' as been down to my house tonight and we went to my moms where the Skorpion is stored.Andy is going to help me sort things out with it, i'm getting the incentive back to sort it out, so hope to get started on it again soon.

Update 16-9-2010

I hear you all saying he's actually doing something at last, well me and Andy ''Streetfighter'' have made a start on the Skorpion tonight, 1st we got her off the trailer and tipped her on one side so it would be easier to work on the underneath.
We got some of the suspension and the drive shafts bolted back in place, When we came to fit the replacement gearbox that i bought we found out that it is deffinateley about 2 inchs to long, so we've got to cut some of the bulkhead away to get it to fit, pictures to follow.
