Title: Rear Mud Gaurds
Post by: Simon.S on April 05, 2021, 05:45:28 PM
This might be a silly question to some, but here goes...
Is it a legal requirement for me to have rear mud guards on my trike?

You can pass an MOT without guards, but they're required on the road, (the MOT only checks the safety of parts fitted & not their legality). I've built trikes without them & ridden them on her majesty's highways, but if you get pulled for it you can't really complain.
Part of the regulations state:
The wheel guards must be so designed as to protect other road users, as far as possible, against thrown-up stones, mud, ice, snow and water and to reduce for those users the dangers due to contact with the moving wheels.

Went out without yesterday!  I've now decided it needs something as when the rain came down it threw the water every which way including on me!   :o   ;D

:) I've got small "cycle guards" on my truck, which direct a spray of rainwater in through the side windows.

Andy, I got caught out in a shower on the frog 😱. Front mudguard drenched me, rear was like a fountain spout. 🤣. Oh and the plug leads enjoyed tracking onto my legs 🤪🤪

Just to let you know when
I had the flapster I sent photos to bike sure as they require. They told me that if I hit a pedestrian or they walk into the side of my trike with out mudguards I wasn't covered so I put them on
Just Giving you heads up! But its entirely  upto you👍🏻 Cheers Gazzagood
