Title: MGBG... Datsun Post by: Manky Monkey on June 28, 2020, 09:06:21 PM One of my New York buddies sent me some photos from a swap meet he was at today.
I thought this was an MG with aftermarket rear lights, but it's actually a Datsun. Love the sideways facing rear seat! Title: Re: MGBG... Datsun Post by: Manky Monkey on June 28, 2020, 09:08:27 PM .

Title: Re: MGBG... Datsun Post by: Manky Monkey on June 29, 2020, 09:36:17 AM I guess it's a sensible solution to the lack of legroom, but I wonder if it was factory standard or an owner conversion?

Watching at the video, the presenter says the rear seat was standard for the Japanese market, but not for the American market. Didn't shean Connery drive something similar in the first James Bond film? Title: Re: MGBG... Datsun Post by: Tony oily bike on June 30, 2020, 07:27:37 PM Nice little video. Didn't shean Connery drive something similar in the first James Bond film? In Doctor No he drove a British Sunbeam Alpine. In You Only Live Twice he was in a Toyota 2000, which is very collectable nowadays, even the price of the model made by Corgi costs a few bob. Title: Re: MGBG... Datsun Post by: Manky Monkey on June 30, 2020, 10:24:23 PM Yeah, it was the Toyota I was thinking of.
I've seen that somewhere -the Bond exhibition at Beaulieu maybe? I'm sure the display info said they'd wanted a hard top, but Connery was too tall for it, so they had to go with the soft top version. |
