Title: Flat battery - hand held booster - NOCO Post by: Tony oily bike on April 23, 2020, 11:05:11 AM I saw three cars in my road yesterday that wouldn’t start because of flat batteries.
Car 1 was successfully jump-started using another (running) car. Car 2 was flat and about to be connected to Car 3, but they found Car 3 was flat too! To the rescue – the NOCO hand held booster. It started Car 2 easy peasey, then it started Car 3 easy peasey. (it’s claimed to do up to 20 jumps starts on a single charge). I bought mine a few years ago on the recommendation of a pal who runs his own second-hand vehicle business, and frequently has to jump start machines when they arrive or have been standing for a while. The model I chose was the GB40 1000A which is spec’d for 6 Litre petrol / 3 Litre diesel engines as figured that should cover most eventualities and it has been successful used every time I’ve needed it. I have to say I’m still impressed with it. There’s a variety of different spe’d units available, Its designed in the USA, built in China, and available in the UK from outlets including Amazon & E-bay. It’s charged from the mains via a supplied USB lead, can be used to top up devices such as phones and has an in-built torch. https://no.co/products/power/jumpstarters https://no.co/gb40 https://www.amazon.co.uk/s?k=noco+1000&ref=nb_sb_noss_1 https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_odkw=noco+boost&_ftrt=901&_sac=1&_sop=10&_sadis=15&_armrs=1&_dmd=1&_sofindtype=0&_osacat=131090&_ipg=25&_ftrv=1&_from=R40&_trksid=m570.l1313&_nkw=noco+boost+1000&_sacat=131090 Title: Re: Flat battery - hand held booster - NOCO Post by: Manky Monkey on April 23, 2020, 08:49:25 PM That's a useful gizmo.
I used to have one of those bigger units that always seem to pop up at auto jumbles -about the size of a car battery in a plastic case. They only seem to have a very short life span though -which is probably why they all end up at auto jumbles. Title: Re: Flat battery - hand held booster - NOCO Post by: Tony oily bike on April 24, 2020, 10:06:44 AM With the general lack of use of private vehicles, flat batteries and bonnets-up could become a common site.
If folk belong to a breakdown service, having the 'home start' or eqv option could be the way to go. Title: Re: Flat battery - hand held booster - NOCO Post by: BikerGran on April 25, 2020, 03:12:33 PM I have a similar one bought after another VW owner used one to start my van when the battery was flat at an event.
Mine is a Suaoki one which came with a full kit including a compressor for tyres. Which reminds me I should put it on charge - doing only short runs in the van I'm concerned about flattening the battery!
