Title: Trike axle
Post by: morrag on January 12, 2020, 04:43:11 PM
With the acute shortage of sensibly priced Reliant axles being apparent, what is the collective opinion on alternatives, both "live" and IRS? Would appreciate anybodies experiences, as, against my better judgement, and at my very great age :o..I'm toying with another, final? well said that before! build. I fancy a lightish-weight trike based on the 650/700 NTV Honda "V" twin base, so all contributions gratefully received, no hawkers, circulars, etc. ;D ;D ;D...Morrag

as a kit car builder of some ill repute, I can offer my two pennies, old money, worth. Ford escort and associate rear ends fetch a scene tax, which is pretty obscene price. I have just used a Morris thousand axle, not the sparkling thing you all dream of, but it does the job, however these are also collecting money faster then they collect dust. Dolomite axle?? I have one under my blue kit and it does the job. Now on to IRS, personally the lightest and best one I have came across cheap as chips is the non lsd Mazda MX5, bit of fabricating required, I have the full details of how, BMW axle is believed to be an easy option but I never got to play with one yet. IF, big if, I can be of any assistance please don't hesitate to bother me, I'm retired and looking forward to being a pest wherever I can.

Well Mr Morrag..if I had my way I'd redo the drive shafts and wishbones on my trike in aluminium to bring down the weight a bit..and I can't fault the jag axle..but every axle one uses nowadays seems to command stupid prices? 😥 get down to a scrap yard ( if you can find one? ) and see what you can find?  I know there's a good engineering company which builds a nice axle for Trikes but can't remember their name
