Title: Gertie's gone
Post by: BikerGran on March 09, 2019, 02:57:43 PM
It's a sad day today, end of an era for me. I've just said goodbye to Gertie. I haven't been able to ride her for a couple of years, and I finally got my head around to knowing that I don't want her to just sit in my garage doing nothing, so she's gone off on a trailer with a bloke I've known for years, he'll tinker with her when he has time and try to sort what's wrong with the axle, and I've told him I'm ok with it if it turns out to be a better idea to use the parts for another project - that would still be better than just wasting the good bits.
I bought her as a bike in 2000, had her triked in 2004/5 and I reckon I've done more different stuff and visited more places than lots of people who've ridden for far more years than I have - I might even write a book!

But I might just have a bit of a cry first...

Sad to hear this BG. Cry all you want.  :'(
I think you have made the right decision and while it would be nice to know Gertie was going to be back on the road, even used for parts would be better better than it sitting doing nothing.
Not sure that I could be strong enough to let mine go though.

I understand the reasoning Bobbie.
Time to let someone else enjoy her. You'll always have the memories :)

It's taken me two years to come to this decision.

She's only gone to Portsmouth - Terry T came and got her.

Terry T will look after her. At least you know she's in good hands Bobby. Plus you love your camper now, so really it's about enjoying another phase in your life.  :)

I know that JJ but I'm really a biker/triker at heart and the campervan will only ever be second best.  Bikers understand what I mean but I can't explain it.

Well done! Hard but sometimes best, now you won't be in pain every time you look at her. Moving on, but what memories eh?

You're right!  I even tried 'TrikerGran' when I qualified for it but that wasn't me either.
