Title: New project ?
Post by: stinkey on October 30, 2018, 08:05:39 AM
Some of you may remember I was given this trailer by STIX ? ( lucky ME ;D)..
Well after going over it I decided to make a start ..my plan is to make it able to carry my trike and also double up as a mobile workshop with a pullout kitchen and drop down beds ? And for as little outlay as possible? ::) but we all say that ?
So far I've been given some metal and 3 scaffold boards ( for ramps ) and I've reused wood and metal from the original build..

Having to reload everything  >:( poor internet connection ) I'm just Winging it (that's the name of the trailer company that built it  ;D) and it's most likely going to look like a horse box type?

What will you be towing it with Steve?

Great project. Watch out for the weight as it's easy to end up with it too heavy for the axle.

Well I have kept my Mercedes estate aside ready for the time (c220 ) which has a tow bar fitted :)
This has 1 ton axles and was used for carrying a big ( portable ) heavy steam engine permanently fixed in the back..so I'm sure I will be ok? The trike is very light..and I intend on using thin wall ply for the walls/roof ( unless I stumble upon a stash of ally sheets ? :-\)..and the axles bolt on so easily replaced Mr Olds  ;)
But time will tell? TBH it's just something to do that's not costing me much money ;D and keeps me happy

Welded (tacked) a top brace, grinded off the old welded brackets off the uprights,it looks higher than it actually is ;D but I do need to walk Inside and it's just the correct height for me

Not going for the 'Airstream' look then. :D
Doing a bit each day, even if it's not a lot, is a good idea and more than a lot of folk ever will get around to do. Keep at it mate.

Well I'm making it up as I go to be honest Mr O, ;D definitely not aiming for airstream or teardrop style..mrs stinkey wants a workspace/ craft shop so she can travel around Spain/Portugal / France selling her jewellery and I wanted to be able to carry the trike or the chop too :D so it's being designed (haha ) around those parameters ?

Did a little bit more on the trailer today..sanded and shaped the wheel wells plus added some supports and painted it ( rain on it's way ) plus I welded in a T-Piece for extra strength when the Front wheel rolls on?

Not much to report..( raining again ) but I've had some matching wheels as the rear ones on the trike, which I thought look good on the trailer? So seeing I've no money to shot last and powder coat..I set to with wire brush and some house paint

Impressive!

Title: Re: New project ?
Post by: stinkey on November 08, 2018, 09:23:42 AM
Well I wouldn't say impressive, but seeing as those wheels had been sat on a car outside for 30 years I'm pleased to have refurnished them ( one left to do now).. I also tinkered and trimmed /shaped up a number plate light holder for the Chop..

So seeing has it's been raining I decided to start refurbishing the last wheel..spent an hour on it,more tomorrow

Title: Re: New project ?
Post by: stinkey on November 12, 2018, 05:18:21 PM
Spent another hour rubbing/sanding/filing/wire brushing, found some white undercoat and did the centre..and with my tiny brush started doing the black..and nope I've run out of red antitrust paint..and it's only for the trailer ;D

Hehe..don't know what you mean BG.. :D I'm just using what I have seeing has I'm skint..and once it's painted it's done..until I decide to fit it on the trailer ( if at all?)

Picked up the scaffold boards from my son, started making the support frame for them today

Title: Re: New project ?
Post by: stinkey on November 17, 2018, 09:57:40 AM
Mr Olds pointed out the load angle ( ferry loading ramps?) and possible chance of hitting the new undercarriage ? I've only tacked it on,so jacked it up..obviously I have taken into account the weight of the trike isn't on it,I see I may have to move the number plate/light board up ? Any suggestion ideas please?

You probably have enough clearance. Just stay away from the Cowes Floating Bridge chain ferry.
Perhaps a hinged lighting board across the scaffold stowage. It only has to be tall enough to fit a standard number plate.
I assume that as this is an old trailer it wont be going in for IVA but it's worth having a read. https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/individual-vehicle-approval-iva-for-light-trailers-help-to-get-a-pass/individual-vehicle-approval-iva-for-light-trailers-help-to-get-a-pass#retro

The number plate unit simply unbolts so I can easily remedy that, and yes it's a very old trailer by a company I believe doesn't exist nowadays ? And I shall have a read of the link..cheers dude  ;)

You have lost your motivation mate, we can all relate to that, I have moments, but I'm extremely motivated by the possibility of selling my house 🤞hence all the work I'm trying to do and keeps me occupied during the LIMBO period we find ourselves in whilst the solicitors do their thing? 😅😅..but I do like to get something achieved each day if possible?
