Title: More modern problems !
Post by: the coppersmith on April 25, 2018, 09:25:38 AM
My daily drive is a very good Saab. Recently felt a kick back in the brakes department. Low speed grind almost. Tried everything, then discovered the ABS trigger wheel had a crack in the drivers side. So yesterday's task was to get it sorted. And pleased to say I did. ;) So much technology, almost afraid to open the bonnet. This £5 ring was all that was wrong. Took me a while to get into it. Couldn't find the 32mm socket or the 18mm. Why do they use odd size heads ? Luckily I live in an engineering belt so was able to borrow the sockets. 4 hours, both sides done

Really? Nothing to locate it? What stops it slipping around under load?
So how does that work? Does it constantly lift & re-apply the brakes with each tooth of the cog? What was the actual fault? Teeth worn down?
Never worked on anything like that.

its a trigger wheel, as it it spins the sensor sees it rotating. however if it stops rotating, it releases and re applys the brakes as you say. The trigger wheel cracked and came loose, and spun or didnt in my case and the sensor at low speed started seeing false lock up. The new one has a very sharp taper on the interferance face so "taps" on. Bit more then a light tap mind :D. The main thing is it works. Lovely and quiet again, and with all those horses you can hear the petrol pulsing through the pipes  ;D

I've got a 2005 Saab and its the nicest, most comfortable reliable car I have owned. One downside, however, is if you boot it or press the 'S'tupid button you can hear the vent in petrol cap whistling as the fuel gets sucked towards the motor.
Love it!

Toying with getting a 2.3 turbo HOT. Good to hear they are reliable.

I very rarely use the S button, it does tend to get away from me  ;D
