I remember fetching home an mg1100 engine and box in the boot of my old clubman, lifting it out myself (without winch) and fitting it. All before 1200 on a Sunday morning.

One year, being particularly short of transport, 3 of us with a Herald Coupe and two bike trailer, plus two Montesa's on the trailer and one Alta, minus wheels! on the boot lid, drove from S.Wales to the I.o.M ferry in Liverpool, left the car and trailer dockside, put the wheels back on the Alta, which I still have! and spent the next two weeks at the TT! transport, no bother.... ;D

Another "how it used to be done".

Take a Jag, saw, unwanted Morris Traveller, and hey presto - bike carrier

O..M..G
I'm not sure which is the most sacrilegious -sawing up the Moggy or defacing the Jag :)

The jag. You can buy all the parts for a traveller brand new but the jags are getting really rare.

I'm watching a box set of Endeavour DVDs at the moment, (the early years of Inspector Morse). Set in the mid 60s. There's some gorgeous old Jags in that.

I used to do some casual work on the afternoons after my Postal round for a neighbour who restored Jags. There were some beautiful cars that passed through his workshop.
