BIG sister of the CX500, they also made a ,,turbo,, version , it would make a good trike  ;).
is it very cheap,,???

very cheap, runs but no downpipes, looks OK as a flat tracker.

"SilverWing"?
Good solid shaft drive motors, much beloved by couriers years ago. Affectionately known as "Plastic Maggots".

Surely it was the CX500 that was a plastic maggot?

Always thought of it as a generic nickname for both engine sizes Bobbi, but you may well be right. Still a good solid workhorse & personally, I think, not a bad looking engine either.

Mmmmmmmm that's got promise , could be a good donar to upgrade a cx500 trike  ;) ;)

its going to be a flat tracker, not wasted on a trike  :D

just been informed by some snotty nosed kid that my CX650 is missing a turbo. Seems that is why there are no pipes from the head and a couple of disconnected oil feed pipes. UHM/ merry blinking chri**mas, time for a Gin I think :(

Bit of a marmite bike in some ways - super reliable, and well built, went through a patch they weren't worth anything. But the pics above show it can be made to look good, prices have jumped up, and once you finish it it will last, well longer than you need probably:)
When you're blatting allong in the sunshine this summer with a smile on your face who is the winner?

The Turbo cx650's had black exhausts and silencers with a big turbo motif on the silencer and the tank and side panels were stickered turbo as well. You probably have a std cx650. I am pretty sure the engine motif would say turbo instead of Honda too.

yeah I agree, plus its got carbs not injection, will give him a slap when I catch him. Has no exhaust whatsoever, those pipes in the pics were given to him. Now to me etc. Engine will be stripped out and ready for the cleaning bath next week I hope.

Kev, (Kapri), had a couple of CX500s recently. He hasn't visited here for a while, but if you look for Kev Rooney on FaceBook, he may still have spares -like exhausts?

dkmotorcycles  on eBay have loads of CX bits and even have exhaust pipes listed at present
But its worth phoning them to get a better price/deal ;)

thanks I'll have a look, trying to balance my life between bike, car's and family at present, and looking for the 13mm socket of course.

Pics from my original 1984 Honda sales brochure show both the CX650E and the CX650TC Turbo

Detail of CX650E, which looks pretty darn close (if not the same) to your project bike Mr Copersmith sir.

There's no such thing as a 13mm socket!! absolutely not, it's in the same bracket as Santa Claus and unicorns!! ;D...on the other hand, I have used three CX/GL 500 motors on various projects, in recent years , and they have all been excellent, so the bigger motor should be that much better. A bit like a Velocette "M" series engine with their high camshaft and short pushrods, tidy,...Morrag

@ Morrag, I'm improvising, found a 1/2" socket, it will have to do. Also found some strange headed bolts on this bike, 16mm. I mean who would use a 16mm head. except Honda  ;D luckily I have a brand new one never before used.

@ Tony Oily Bike, thanks for the info and brochure, very good, if only mine looked like that.

Who'd use a 16mm? Rover. And all sizes between 11 and 25, and I mean "every" one exist on my zt.

Sold this on today. To much on my plate at present. Will look at another bike later in the year.

A shame, but better to have 1 or 2 projects you can enjoy than 7 or 8 that'll never get finished.

You coud go completely mad and turn it sideways. Put a sprocket and chain on the output and run a proper tracker.

Some of his photos are the same as yours, and the same bits of blue tape on the tank............

Thought there was something dodgy about the way he got so uptight about me asking a question!

TO ADD..if the new seat, frame rail, speedo and filter pods are not wanted ill knock 50.00 off total selling price!.have now found the original silencers that are in a usable state(don't look too bad).NO stupid offers and please study photos before asking questions..collection is south dorset(dt5).may swap/px up and running bike over 600cc(prefer classic).john
