Title: Winter Project
Post by: morrag on September 28, 2017, 07:33:08 PM
Finally dug out my Alta Suzuki, from a very long "slumber" from under a tarpaulin marked "What's under that tarpaulin?".... and in need of a deal of TLC, built in '71, and last ridden competitively in '72, but shall now be returned to life as a local "shopper" and runabout, hopefully! Morrag

And another couple of pics. Originally it had a nickel plated frame, so I might re do it that way, we shall see, and dependant on price/availability of someone to do it! still, new set of boots ordered and now to dismantle....Morrag

Ooh! That's a rare thing,  a Welsh rarebit of kit. Was it road registered ?

It certainly was/ is Dave. I built it in '71 and rode it for about 1 1/2 Trials seasons, before changing to a 250cc Montesa Cota, but bought it back a few years later and its been holding the garage wall up ever since :P, but, today it ran again! so, there's life in at least one old dog yet, but now in need of some TLC, the bike that is  ;D,the Alta Suzuki was one of the few motorcycles ever built in Wales, albeit in kit form to avoid the dreaded purchase tax of the day. A cracking little comp. bike that saw me through many Club& Open to Centre, Trials. It was the era of "Mechanical mice" and even the great Martin Lampkin rode one for a while, ho hum, past times....Morrag

Having tidied up my old Alta over the past few months, and given it a new set of "boots" it was time for a quick run around today, first time I had ridden it since 1972 when I switched to a Bultaco! still, felt good, wish the knees did as well, mind you, but Tempus fugit!! :D...Morrag

Nice tidy bike.
Decided against re plating the frame then.

For the time being anyway, Dave, but time will tell! although its just a working trialer, and re-plating a frame these days is silly money, at least where I live, so maybe it should stay that way.....anyway, I have a 1935 MOV that's languished in bits for far too many years, and that will be coming next so, watch this space...although not to intensely :D :D..Morrag

Yep, the 'bike that saved Velocette's when the OHC motors were becoming too expensive to be profitable! and started the "M" series of high cam engines, which continued through to the Venom, history is there!! so provided I can find all the bits still.... ??? ???..Morrag

And this is it, most of a 1937 MOV Velocette, I say most as some bits are proving elusive having been packed away so many years ago! but i'll find the buggers! ;D...so, here we go again....Morrag

When I saw the two engines together, I was kinda hoping you might be going for a double-engined beasty........  ::)

Perhaps a bit like “One Lump or Two”, the AMC double engined bike of Colin Pearce as seen in the photo from the Brighton Speed Trials 2001.
