Don't forget this is a short course record (3 miles). If you look at the runs, this speed was at mile 1 and he needs to make a return run, of above the original record, to make the speed official.

Some are vintage bikes and some are right up to date. Also he may have clicked it off early and obviously didn't do the 2nd or 3rd mile.

Sounds daft but the problem is the height above sea level. The air is thin. Naturally aspirated engines are really hard to set up on the carb/injector front to run clean. Cams, Ign timing would also be effected. If you took your road car/bike it would be massively down on power because of this, so setup is critical. If I took my sprinter 500 I would either need to change the carbs or fit a blower. I would not expect it to make much more than 60mph on standard setup and would probably melt a piston. As well as this the salt gets everywhere, blocks air filters, gets into bearings and, I am told, the surface is like riding on an inch of fresh but abrasive snow. Not an easy set of problems to overcome.
