Title: Phone case replacement
Post by: Manky Monkey on July 16, 2017, 08:34:43 PM
I dropped my SmartPhone today. Really annoyed with myself cos I've managed to avoid that so far. It's cracked the back casing, right over the camera lens, so now every photo I take has one fuzzy corner.
I've just bought a replacement rear cover on Ebay for a tenner. I know old Nokias had interchangeable cases but are Smartphone cases easy to replace, or do I need to find a repair bloke?
It's a Huawei P9.

depends if you feel brave and have the tools. you will need a couple of suction cups and small screw driver.

this vid is for battery replacement but starts by showing how to remove case.

Squeeze the middle of the screen till the edges of the casing open up? -that's gonna end in disaster isn't it!

Phone fixed.
Bought a replacement rear casing for 10 quid from Ebay, then found a local company called Imend, who advertise that they'll come to your house or place of work & fix your phone in front of you, (people have so much personal information on their phones now that no-one wants to hand them over to a stranger). Unfortunately it turned out they only do that for Iphones, not other makes. I could post it to their main branch in Stafford, but I decided to look locally & found a shop in Basingstoke town centre called I Broke My Gadget. They replaced the old casing with the one I provided in an hour, for 25 quid. Sorted.
The guy in the shop switched it on & showed me everything worked, including the camera, which I was worried was damaged, but it wasn't till I got home that I thought -How did he do that? I've got a 6 digit pin number that I have to enter every time I use the phone. He even told me that the fingerprint recognition pad only worked intermittently, which I knew & is why I don't have it switched on. So much for security!

Security! When you think apps ask for loads of permissions and then make their privacy documents so long winded and hard to read that we give up. Then we have Google or other providers backing up all our data. I always try to limit what they back up but press one wrong button and you've handed them your life and a lot of your contacts info on a plate. I've just had a new phone and I've realised how much of my life is on the old one, such as the calendar and my contact list.  :o
