Title: Lacquer for aluminium.
Post by: Olds on July 11, 2017, 11:03:52 AM
Any suggestions for a good lacquer for use on aluminium ?
Fork legs need refinishing. It won't be a polish job but a brushed finish as original. Planning on using polyurethane but wondered if anyone knew of anything better.

I recently tried Halfords own clear lacquer in a spray tin, went on and looks great, BUT, its only a few weeks old yet.

If it's the  Halfords heavy duty PU lacquer, it tends to yellow slightly over time but not as bad as some.

I used some brush-on lacquer when I did my Honda forks - can't remember what it was, got it at a bike show from a stall selling alu-brite and similar.
But I followed the instructions and put LOTS of coats on - it was pretty good!

Thanks BG. In the end I used the Halfrauds PU as I had a can. Takes forever to dry and needs 30 minutes between coats.
