Well I'm at it again. Following on from A Deauville conversion, I am now on with a ST1100.

The bike is ex police, please don't hold it against the poor thing. Look at it more of a liberation from it's former life, a sort of good cop to bad.

Any road up, back to the reason for posting.

I have started the mock up, positioning axle on same wheel base as bike. This doesn't leave a lot of space to get propshaft in.

On the same wheel base it looks as though the prop will fall short of turning without catching on it's UJ.

Moving the axle back would cure this, as the angle will reduce.

Ideally I would like to keep same wheel base. Any thoughts would be very welcome.

Done this on my gl1000

Shortened the Deauvile, just looked better, however, saw a ST on ebay recently and diff was central.

Comparing trike pic to bike, it looks as though the wheel base has been lengthened.

I kept wheel base same and diff centre on the ST I built it's still going well 30 degree ujs are the answer .... also final drive ratio of 2.82 / 1 as a bike so B stamp suited the build as I use same od wheels as bike

I see, did wonder about the UJ's

I know this thread is a bit old now, but what did you do about the uj's ?

I moved the axle back from the bikes original position and used the bikes UJ and the reliant UJ. ( I have kept the axle standard width )

I found that to keep the original wheelbase & axle width, I would have had to use different UJ's because of the angle.

Alternatively if you were to narrow the axle, you could maintain the original wheelbase. As there would be less of an angle between bike and axle.

Two questions,

Question 1, is there different uj's that would fit the reliant prop and the bike drive shaft.
 
Question 2,how far back did you move the axle to the bikes original wheelbase.

1 No you cant change the bikes ujs its all part of the shaft

2 your looking at moving it back about 3" to 4"

you will need to work out the difference by measuring to drive output shaft and centre of the bike. then you can work out the minimum length of the prop.

Hi Merv this is not to important but will give you an idea of how sharp an angle the prop will be. you don't want it to tight. on mine it 20" over all shaft length not including the uj on the engine
