Title: almost an XS
Post by: the coppersmith on March 28, 2017, 07:29:15 PM
Traveled across Devon today to seek out a 650 Yamaha. Been in a shed a few years, bargain project. Down through the woods, turn left, further down in the woods, I think I can hear duelling banjo's  :o . Finally found it. Hand shake and welcome, pulled the door, definitely a bike in amongst the dust and debris. Digging and pulling and stretching in the dark. Finally got movement, dragged it out into weak sunlight to find it was not the imperial twin but an XVS, slightly gutted and spirits dampened. Had a good look around the rust heap and said I'd think about it, then for good measure I kicked the tyres and walked away mumbling.

It's a Yamaha. It's a twin. It's a 650. It's air cooled but it's not an XS.
Nowt wrong with the XVS though apart from the lack of a kick start and they'd make a good donor for a trike.

Is it me? am I an awkward sod or something, went out and looked at a VF750, total basket case, but all there. Guy wanted £400 for it, then when I get there he puts the price up because he has had interest in it. So I walked away.
Today I looked at 2 CX500's both in good fettle so I thought. One was paperworkless, no plates on it, nuthin. The other was ride away and enjoy, right! It was the slowest bike I ever tried, utter gutless. Walk away again. Yamaha 750 twin, rough? you could cut your throat on it. Friday is Triumph day, found out about a nice Daytona 70's plate 500 twin, what could possibly be wrong with that? Watch this blinkin space  :o

Ooh, go for the Trumpet! Mine were all basket cases, mainly cos I was a teenager with no idea how to fix them, but great fun to ride.
At least you'll break down in style.  :P

Was before or after you'd owned them?  ;D   ::)
