Title: Graham Walker Memorial Run, Beaulieu - Sun 13th Aug 2017
Post by: Tony oily bike on February 09, 2017, 09:34:32 AM
Graham Walker won the 1928 Ulster Grand Prix and was a TT rider, but is probably more well known as being the father of Murray Walker.

The Memorial Run is a run for vintage and veteran motorcycles (all pre 1941) gathering at Beaulieu.

Some details from the Sunbeam Motorcycle Club (the organising club, of which Graham was one of the founders)

It is astonishing how many of these bikes are still on the road, even if some of them are only brought out for runs like this one. It is a testament to those companies that built them so well to start off with and to the TLC given to them by their owners.

Rick has told me before how difficult some of these early bikes are to ride and I know I wouldn't fancy it especially in todays traffic and on our pot holed roads so it's great this run keeps on being supported.  :)

Me and a mate was there. I was on my 1926 Douglas and Gavin was on his 1930 Sunbeam. They are a bit of a handful to ride but that adds to the fun. You soon get used to lever throttle (twistgrips are for girls), manual oil pump, advance retard, air mixture and hand gear change with a crash gearbox. Couple that with little power and brakes that are more of a suggestion than a command gives you a ride that needs lots of concentration and awareness. Very rewarding though.

And, having seen the Dougie up close in Mr Slam's shed, it's a beautiful machine. Did you have a good day Andy?

Had a great day thanks.
50 miles on b roads. Didn't miss a beat. A bit bumpy in places. My arse was a bit sore.
Its good fun riding roads you wouldn't otherwise go down. Narrowly missed a few errant cows and pony's though. Adds to the fun I guess.
