Title: VW sidecar trike Post by: Manky Monkey on February 03, 2017, 08:46:49 PM Posted by Kapri on FaceBook.
VW Beetle engine hidden in the arse of the sidecar & ridden from the bike. VW wings used to create the rear bodywork with cut n shut bonnet up front? Presumably 2 wheel drive with shortened driveshafts. Gear lever in the side car. Leaf-sprung seat. Clever stuff. Clever though, as you say. Title: Re: VW sidecar trike Post by: BikerGran on February 04, 2017, 11:38:47 PM Would look better in purple. And it's fugly. Apart from that it's lovely!
Title: Re: VW sidecar trike Post by: stinkey on February 04, 2017, 11:54:58 PM That's cool, brill and cleverly done and funky .. 8)
Title: Re: VW sidecar trike Post by: kapri on February 05, 2017, 09:34:25 AM Real wheel drive standard width as the seat forks are simply offset to the centreline .Doesn't qualify as a trike as wheels not equidistant from front :(
Title: Re: VW sidecar trike Post by: flc on February 05, 2017, 09:48:22 AM That's brilliantly bonkers :D
Could get interesting with a passenger in the chair......... "Brace yourself Dorris I'm going for forth gear" ;D ;D ::) Title: Re: VW sidecar trike Post by: Manky Monkey on February 05, 2017, 10:08:01 AM :D So how would that be registered Kev? Wonder how it handles?

Smokey Yunick had this race car back in 1964 http://www.macsmotorcitygarage.com/2014/04/29/another-look-at-smokey-yunicks-capsule-car/ Title: Re: VW sidecar trike Post by: stinkey on February 05, 2017, 10:19:17 AM Never seen that one by smokey ?..he certainly was ahead of most in his day ? So this is a sidecar/combination then? Either way it's ingenious, and were it not the colour of Beyonce's bum (purple metallic would be my choice too BG), i would like it very much. Title: Re: VW sidecar trike Post by: kapri on February 06, 2017, 09:59:16 AM :D So how would that be registered Kev? Wonder how it handles? It wouldn't in this country as it's left hand drive combo . I'm guessing it would be hard work to ride , pretty much like a combo from the tales I've heard ie different techniques to go left or right Title: Re: VW sidecar trike Post by: Manky Monkey on February 06, 2017, 06:57:52 PM Speed up to go left, slow down to go right.
Title: Re: VW sidecar trike Post by: BikerGran on February 06, 2017, 08:32:14 PM Yeah but it's more throttle one way, brake the other? This is why I went the trike route though I'd rather have had an outfit really.
Title: Re: VW sidecar trike Post by: Olds on February 06, 2017, 09:36:17 PM Speed up to go left, slow down to go right. With a uk sidecar it was throttle left, brake right. A real pain on big fast roundabouts. With this thing with it's 2WD and offset front wheel. who knows how it will steer. Title: Re: VW sidecar trike Post by: Stix on February 06, 2017, 09:45:21 PM On a conventual outfit the sidecar wheel should lead the rear wheel by a few inches so that it will go round a right handed without lifting the rear wheel and dropping the chair nose to the deck.
Stix Title: Re: VW sidecar trike Post by: minimutly on February 06, 2017, 10:18:03 PM This will steer like a normal trike, don't see any reason why not? So long as the driver doesnt get too close to the verge...
