Look like moggy traveller rear hinges, but with those there is a slight angular difference between top and bottom though.
£9 a pair, is a good price.

They look very much like the door hinges on my old landrover 90 I used to have. And those larger catches definitely look like landrover bits.

Somewhere I should have layout drawings for fitting a Morris 1000 body on a series III chassis. Though God knows where they are now, as they were done in the early 80s.
I know where the chassis drawings are (I think  :-\) but can't recall if it was a SWB or a cut down LWB.

Kev, I've got 4 of those hinges in my spares box if you want them. Also fitted to Mini van & Morris Minor van rear doors. They have a brass ball fitting in the middle so you can fit them against angled surfaces.

They used to make an ascending pitch "creeaaak" noise when opened if I recall

Kev will correct me if I'm wrong, but as far as I understand things, you can remove non structural items such as body mount brackets, fuel tank mounts etc. and in this case the battery mounting. Just make sure that anything you remove is not also acting as bracing between structural members.
On a Landy chassis this is fairly easy to see but on modern unitary construction, working out what is structural or not can be difficult.

It's a bit of a minefield to be honest. From speaking with Tech at VOSA ( DSVA now ) they really expect anything shown on a factory chassis diagram to remain there BUT will allow removal of small body mounts , fuel tank supports depend on how big what and where they are. The small brackets on the back of a Herald chassis , and also on Realiant Scimitar that servo no purpose other than tank supports can definitely NOT be removed whilst undergoing the rebodying process. Unitary / Monococque items tend to be much more clearcut .For instance you CAN'T remove an engine mount from the body and they would expect you to make an adaption between block and monococque.

I stand corrected. Thanks Kev.
Must be hell for special commercial/military vehicle builders these days, but then again we had manufacturers chassis drawings, that specified allowable major modifications.

Everything has to go through IVA on the built from new chassis cab Coachbuilt side nowadays. You can do mods to already built stuff on a chassis cab like say remove a horsebox and put on a pick up body using the rebody rules providing no chassis mods. Even after an almost 5 year lead in would you believe their are Coachbuilding comapnies who still hadn't heard that they needed to comply ? Amazes me how many specialist body / chassis builders simply don't keep up with legislation that would stop their business dead?

I recently got involved with one specialist lorry that needed to comply but couldn't that was over £250,000 worth!

Not sure I'd call it classy. It doesn't even have doors, or for that matter, much of anything.
Spend plenty of time at the planning stage and it will save a lot of time and effort later on.

started on the body this afternoon, blimey its eating some steel!!!
swallowed up over 12metres just doing part of sides!!!!

Yep, if you don't make a cutting list, then it comes as a bit of a surprise (or shock) just how much material is required.
Will this be skinned in steel or aluminium?

Skinned in steel.

right, no one laugh. this is how far i've got with the body. first time at doing this.
got one door outer frame in hole, need to get more steel for other side.
got the cowl and front bulk head to start yet, which i think will change the looks making it not seem so wide.

steering column/box will need dropping a couple of inches.

The A's and T of that period are probably the 'easiest 'to reproduce as they were actually built in small pieces at the factory as initially they didn't have the big presses. Hence why early cars have big fabric roof inserts ;)  Looking good Chris :)

just ordered more steel. thats about 20metres gone, with another 12 on way!!!

not even thought about steel sheet yet!!!!

may need advice on thickness. must be in mm as cannot understand them old fashioned numbers for sheet thickness!!! lol

Title: Re: Rat Rod Rover!!!!!
Post by: lunatic on June 10, 2015, 05:04:37 PM
Standard body steel from a motor factors is 0.9 mm, I use this and 1.1/2 ish for more structural areas and floors.

Title: Re: Rat Rod Rover!!!!!
Post by: poprodder on June 10, 2015, 05:08:04 PM
thanks.  so 1mm will be ok on body as nearly all flat. floor will be anything thats going cheap!!!! lol

Title: Re: Rat Rod Rover!!!!!
Post by: lunatic on June 10, 2015, 05:38:17 PM
Yeah, I'd go with the slightly thicker stuff if it's mostly flat or large curves. Floor doesn't have to be that thick if it's got enough bracing under it or some stiffening beads or ribs rolled/pressed/bashed into it.

Just a bit ! :D

For floor panels you could consider marine ply (WBP)

Title: Re: Rat Rod Rover!!!!!
Post by: poprodder on June 11, 2015, 04:26:58 AM
proper marine ply is bs1088.  used thousands of sheets in my time.

Used exterior grade ply on mine, as it's going to be fully sealed anyway, and it was a lot cheaper (already had it  :D )

That cowl makes a basic metal box into something surprisingly car-like doesn't it!
Now you need to explain the copper to the non welders.  ;)

Title: Re: Rat Rod Rover!!!!!
Post by: poprodder on June 24, 2015, 05:56:49 AM
thank you andy, its not the same shape each side but i guess thats what you get with doing it in ya garage with a handfull of tools.

the flattened copper pipe is used when welding. you put it behind a butt joint/gap in steel on the sheet steel, it then stops the weld burning through but does not stick to copper. end result is holes filled in. it does get mighty hot though so a wooden handle is good.

I actually don't think it looks bad -you've got a lot of very flat bodywork & it'd help to break it up a bit. Once it's painted body colour it won't stand out so much.
Have you tried clamping a length along the door or across the back & standing back to see how it looks? Can we see how it looks? I drilled the body panels on my Pop & welded the swage-line rod from the back to keep it tidy. Think mine's about 12mm wide, but that was to match the original Pop lines, (mine's actually made from lengths of curved profile bar from a set of French window locks, supplied by forum member Afghan Man, from his French farmhouse).

but and this is a big but. i don't think i want the engine etc. i've said yes to it and i'm not the type of person to go back on my word, but reading up on them i think something more simple would be better.  i'll wait for it to be delivered then make my mind up. :-\

right guys i need some advice.

i was going for crossplys, but also got ideas for big chunky 4x4 tyres rear with smaller but still chunky for front.

there is also third option of putting van tyres on.

 ???  :-\  ::)

Title: Re: Rat Rod Rover!!!!!
Post by: Manky Monkey on July 22, 2015, 10:06:02 PM
I've got skinny crossplies all round on the Pop, mainly for the vintage look. They're fine as long as you know their limitations -not much grip so longer braking distances, more careful cornering & no high speed motorway driving in the rain.

Title: Re: Rat Rod Rover!!!!!
Post by: Olds on July 23, 2015, 05:38:35 AM

Agreed. In the 70s, I ran crossplys on a pinto engined,  Mk1 Cortina. Highly entertaining on wet roundabouts.
You really have to decide what you want the vehicle to look like as well as it's usage. Unless you have got to the wings stage, I would concentrate on getting the body finished, before laying out cash on tyres, so you have more of an idea of the overall look.

Nice to be able to stand back & have a good look at it Chris.
Love the scuttle/cowl -could you maybe radius some of the other corners in the same way to make it a little less boxy? (the back corners of the cab, gutter rails & perhaps add a curved sill panel under the doors?)

A bit late for the areas that you've already done, but you can save time and effort by welding on the insde where it won't be seen. Much less dressing of the seen surfaces.

went and picked the engine that will be in it for a while, landrover 2.5na diesel, not the quickest but needs must.

80mile round trip with it in back of an astra was a bit of an experiance.

me and the boy managed to get it in the engine bay tonight, sits further back than i expected, but i can live with that. need to sort engine mounts.

and find a gearbox.

need to find out how people deal with engine mounts putting a 2.5 (90 swb) into a swb series chassis. i think you change chassis mount on o/s and space them up by about 2", then the battery tray can stay, cutaway at moment to allow engine to sit roughly in place.

so much for leaving it alone,

got passenger door frame made and hung, also made decision to have slidy windows.

the door skin(2mm) will overlap onto body, with a small rubber seal behind. the hinges allow this.

the skin will move away from body when door opens.

no pics, but spent a few hours today experimenting with door catches, got it mocked up after lots of measuring, drilling, bolting then welding. then grinding. door catches real nice and closes.

hopefully do some more tomorrow, along with door skin hopefully.

Sliding windows is a great idea. Really simplifies the doors as there is so much less to go wrong than having window winder mechanisms.

the door skin(2mm)

words of advice

strip down clean up and free off the 4wd dog in the nose where the front prop fits it will be a job well done as they only rely on a spring to engage the dog when you pull the pin up if it isnt nice and free it wont engage 4wd or only partly engage  and chew itself up  or jamb in 4wd

guess how i know   ::)

back to original plans, engine/box now mounted 5 1/2" forward!!!
chassis mounts not altered.
onto steering and pedals. blimey space is tight, got steering box bolted onto stock mounts. err........ steering wheel rather
close to driver!!! plans to cure that.
got a pedal box from a discovery. thats now been chopped into two and now has a big hole drilled between clutch/brake pedals to slide down column. the throttle cable actually fits onto the original mount and fixing on injecter pump which is rather handy!! guess thats a good thing with keeping everything landrover.

no pics yet.

Very true. It's so easy to forget to allow for all those smaller items, such as electrical components, refurb parts, engine.   ;)  They all add up.
Starting with a bare rolling chassis, does tend to mean, that a few items may be missing. :D
It's a hobby, and not a cheap one, so you do what you can, when you can and when finances permit.
Keep at it Chris.

Title: Re: Rat Rod Rover!!!!!

It's definitely an all engrossing pastime -all my available spare cash goes into either my truck or my bike. I'm on holiday at the moment & if it weren't for this hobby I could be sitting on a beach in the sun somewhere. I enjoy creating stuff though. The building bug's a bit of a curse really -but at least I'll have something to show for it when they're done.
Keep plugging away Chris. We all know how you feel! Any progress is still progress.

well its time to give the facts as they are.

i've no money. yep even though me and mrs poprodder are both working, i've not a dime spare.(or enough for that matter!!!)
lost all interest in rods etc, no idea why, not just a phase but not been to our local club meet for nearly 2yrs, don't miss it. no interest to go in garage, when i do, i have to force myself to do anything.

its no good me mothballing the pick up in garage, its going, along with garage!!!

need to take a step back and finish house repairs etc.

i'll keep popping in on here, but don't think i'll keep a pressence so much on other forums.

chris.

I've been there quite a few times over the years & actually got rid of my tools & given up rented garages several times.
I decided a while ago that my current 2 projects will be my last. Not giving up on the scene, just want to get out & enjoy the vehicles I've got rather than constantly working on new ones. It's an age thing I think -several of my mates are thinning their project collections at the moment.
Always welcome here Chris.  ;)

I often get like that as well Chris . I'm trying hard to thin my stuff down and , Like Andy , would love to just have a couple that meet my needs and not be forever building. Having said that I actually need to keep moving as my back gets worse if I do nothing :(

Title: Re: Rat Rod Rover!!!!!

Same here. Next year I will probably be selling my bikes but can't imagine ever selling the trike. These days I can only work for an hour at a time but not doing anything makes things worse.
Take a long break from it all Chris and the enthusiasm may come back. Perhaps a project that takes less time, space and cash may be the way to go. I found motorcycles to be profitable (the trike was funded by bikes) and gave me something to do.

I must agree with Dave, I have usually managed to make sufficient profit from bikes/trikes etc. to at least fund the next "vision", and that's over quite a long lifetime, (to date ;D), but like everyone, enthusiasm, interest, and direction comes and goes, and ain't that the way of things, so, sit out a spell, until driven back! often by boredom, to more of the same... :D :D Morrag

"sorry i fail to see where you are going with this, is it all in your head or do you have some photos / ideas to share?"

Weldequip have the same feed unit but it's £49.75 + £6.95 P&P
Might be better looking for a spares /repair one to canibalise. My 90EN has a different (later ?) unit but fixings etc look the same, so I imagine that most of these may be interchangeable.

Title: Re: Rat Rod Rover!!!!!
Post by: poprodder on November 12, 2015, 06:14:40 PM
after some decorating today i thought i would have another tinker with the welder. tried to mend it late yesterday but it still played up, so i realy took it apart this time. seems the plastic clamp bit is not holding the wire liner tight enough, so when the wire is feeding through it pushes the liner up the torch hose(!?!)   here comes the idea bodge to try and cure it. i pulled the liner out a little and wrapped some masking tape around it so when i pushed it back it it stopped. also put acouple of turns of tape around liner where the clamp holds onto it.

i've now welded up some of the floor and all seems well at the moment.

 ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D :-* ok that last one was a bit much!!!!!!

not much progress. ::)

roof is staying, gained headheight another way.

i have purchased one of these, a steering relay, as the one fitted is completely siezed and will have to be destroyed to be removed from chassis.
this will also explain the real tight steering when we moved it a while ago. must remember to fill with oil.

Making sure that the arms are at the optimum relative positions.
Think it's 90 degrees to the rod that each arm is attached to at the straight ahead position.

I see you got your extra head room. :)
That disco pedal assembly look handy Chris. I assume there wasn't room for the standard accelerator pedal.

Hope your tools manage to survive the dousing with water. Remove the battery's from anything like meters or power tools and take the covers off things like your mig and let it all dry out.  A hair drier or fan heater helps.

When I lived with Tazet & the shed roof felt got ripped off in a storm, I ended up putting up an old gazebo inside the shed to keep everything dry. It was still there when we split up a couple of years later.

Post by: Manky Monkey on December 04, 2016, 08:48:44 AM
Find yourself a cheap Scimitar & pull it apart mate. Or bite the bullet & build from scratch for BIVA testing?
I had my Pop chassis rails welded up by Jimmy at Valley Gas Speed Shop in Berkshire, (now in Hampshire), for 500 quid. One off, basic side rails & front & rear cross members with front spring perch, although we later dropped the front lower & extended the back. I ain't rich, so it was a lot of cash to find, but Loon & I weren't confident we could build it level & true so it was worth getting right to give us a good base to start from.
Glad to hear you haven't given up on this one Chris. Personally I think your cab roof could do with some curves, but I love the bulkhead. It'll be interesting to see where you go with it.  ;)

Title: Re: rebodied hotrod

well the strip down has started,
removed steering column, brake and clutch pedals which look ideal to swap straight over.
speedo, switches etc.
wiper motor and linkages.
anything i can remove that could be useful is being removed.
luckily there's no airbag, but plenty of electricals!!!
some how it runs and drives ok with the immobiliser ecu removed!!!! no idea how.

managed to find a diagram to show where the ten bolts are that hold body on.

hope to get it removed by next week end.

still stripping, my god theres some crap in modern vehicles.

dashborad area, erm its gone!!!!!!

the body is very solid, thought for a while it was to good to strip down.

trying to use as much of donor as possible, pedals, along with braking system will all be used.

going to try to use steering column complete, even removed mounting bar, plates etc.

been told this bit is very important!!!!

these will be have to be cut of as siezed solid. only 10 to find!!!!!

got to finish removing wiring loom, drain, remove radiator then a few odds and sods, should then be lift off!!!!

Title: Re: rebodied hotrod
Post by: poprodder on April 14, 2017, 06:18:53 PM
so 7 chassis bolts removed, 4 cut off, 3 removed at rear, fighting with a stubborn one that i think will shear off.

just got front bumper to remove then last 2 bolts. radiator etc,

then last few bits of wiring along with rear seat belts.

should then be body off.

So what constitutes "modified"? How far can you go before you need to notify them?

no idea, don't know if its ever been written anywhere by dvla? kev? i know you've said about bulkheads and gearbox tunnel plus rear quarters. i guess it is written some where. there were some great links and write ups on the old ACE site.

Title: Re: rebodied hotrod
Post by: kapri on May 10, 2017, 09:32:08 PM
Yes they was good info but no one paid any attention to it and it was costing all the  guys money to keep it all up there . Those words have been on the DVLA site for around 5 years now ;)  Same words used to be used on an info leaflet that used to be supplied with old V5s. Wouldn't have made any difference as back then unless it was a glaring modification the phone answere would have said " No, you don't need to notify us cos there is nowhere on the form to do it ".

This where DVLA sould be brought to task for creating so many problems for themselves.

There is what is currently still discussion that DVLA will draw a line in the sand on modified Historics and anything already done will be regarded as part of the cars Historic nature . I'll wait til I see it in writing and EXACTLY what they mean by it before celebrating ut it does seem the simplest way to put the toilet seat down.

going to take someone with big ones and deep pockets i think kev.

i've been back on it today, first time in about 3+weeks.
wiring now stored away, engine loom in one box, everything else in another.
everything out of interior that could be usefull(yes i know most will never ever be used!!!) has also been stored.
ended up cutting of last rear chassis bolt, still got 2 more at front which will also have to be cut as they have been inline of fire from mud, water etc for over 20yrs!!!! but need to remove bumper first which again will need bolts cutting.
i cut inner wing on drivers side to help when lifting to clear brake master/servo.
handbrake will be the last thing to disconnect due to it keeping the vehicle inside the garage!!!!lol

i know i need to take a picture of chassis number, do i also need vin plate photo?

suppose i better put a pic up, not a lot has happened, cut the front of which will save us lifting body up over engine. just handbrake to disconnect(and keep to re-use)
the body does lift up from chassis so all good there.

:D Ha ha!! Lookin' good Chris!
It's practically finished -on the road next week!
So -for the stoopid among us, (yeah, me), this is a re-body. Totally legit? No BIVA required? VOSA inspection needed when it's finished? Or literally send the V5C back to DVLA to change the body type? Just to clarify for other readers.

need to fill in a v627/1 form (built up vehicle report)
pics of vehicle with number plate showing before tear down, then no/plate with rolling chassis, and finally one of finished vehicle with no/plates showing.
send with v5c(i think? kev?) to dvla.
make of vehicle stays the same but model has to be changed.(new name) ie. "vauxhall poprodder" for example.
if they are happy no inspection, but if not inspection by sgs.

hope i've got that all correct.

sweating buckets just from looking at it!!! lol
i'm also not one for sitting on beach or walking around in the sunshine(yes i really am a miserable git!!!!)
guess i'll make a parts list up.

i used plastic fuel lines on my minx, thinking about them on this, in my mind just as good as copper.

Title: Re: rebodied hotrod
Post by: poprodder on September 02, 2017, 04:27:27 PM
well where do i start. (facebookers will know most of this)

i've had a couple of bad months with the black dog, plus family medical problems(mrs poprodder)  which have really tested/nearly broke  us,
long nights talking, hospital visits etc, everything is ok for now but it really frightened me, like really, really.

onto automotive things.

my daily is an auto and i've been trying to swap it for a manual, but i've been fussy and like the car.
so i've started collecting parts to convert to manual.
this has diverted my interests so decided to see if i could sell some rod parts, i've lost all interest in rods etc.

i've sold the pick up body!!!!!!! collection later in the week.

i've also had an offer on chassis and running gear, don't know if i'll part with that yet.
but garage space could be turning into decking area etc.  as i evaluate family life etc.

Post by: Olds on July 08, 2018, 01:30:28 PM
Genuine Willys jeep tubs go for big money and are hard to find. Mahindra or Jago might be easier, but the design is so simple it would be fairly easy to make. The Jeep was a lot narrower than the Frontera so widened wings/flares or a wide body. If doing a self build body, using a modified series Land Rover bulkhead/screen might save a lot of work.

I meant a test other than MOT, or will it indeed need just such a test?

Title: Re: rebodied hotrod **NEWS***
Post by: Olds on July 13, 2018, 05:00:30 AM
As far as I'm aware, if kept within the rules then it shouldn't require full BIVA testing, but may need to be inspected and it's best to build to BIVA standards just in case.
Remember NO alterations to the chassis. Best to keep as much of the driveline, suspension, steering and brakes, as standard as possible. Obviously no sharp edges etc, and you need to keep to, or exceed standards that were applicable when the vehicle was originally made, on items such as seat belts, glass and lighting.
Steering and brakes are areas on older vehicles, where the 8 point rule and BIVA can come into conflict. To keep them as originally built, means that building to BIVA standards is impossible, but that shouldn't affect anything originally made from the 70's on.

Title: Re: rebodied hotrod **NEWS***
Post by: stinkey on July 13, 2018, 07:42:52 AM
As Olds said..it's going to need some sort of test..unless it was simply left registered as original ? But those days are coming to an end? :o

Title: Re: rebodied hotrod **NEWS***
Post by: The North on July 13, 2018, 07:47:19 AM
Ok thanks for the explanation appreciated i am largely in the dark and certainly negative in attitude when it comes to these Tests, i really should get my act together and do the research on what is what! at least then my ignorance on such matters wont be as obvious.

Title: Re: rebodied hotrod **NEWS***
Post by: poprodder on July 13, 2018, 10:47:39 AM
yep, could well need an inspection by sgs if dvla are anyway unhappy, (only sending the minimuim required, photo's etc)
once documents are all updated it will then need an MOT.

Title: Re: rebodied hotrod **NEWS***

I have downloaded the IVA book and saved the detail pages off the GOV site, and plan to inwardly digest it, it looks to be changing in september this year.
My Devon will be stock chassis and body and i think i need to do more research before i decide on the mechanicals  to avoid complications.

That's a shame.
As for a lack of doors, as far as I'm aware, there's nothing in the construction and use regs to say that doors are required. You and Andy could start a new trend.  ;)  ;D

I did actually wonder about that! MOT legal then?

Title: Re: Rebodied Hotrod

Seems that a lack of doors is not a MOT failure point. Though a safety strap (willys jeep) might be a good idea. :)

A tray back ute might be the easiest route.
Before worrying about the back, think I'd at least try to find some front wings to determine how far back the body needs to sit on the chassis. That or some very careful measuring.

i've been trying to use as many frontera parts as possible.
got the steering column roughly in place, this will save a lot of work.

this is roughly stock position on the rover.

length is near enough spot on but does depend on front wing position but there is some movement in wheel position now.

and wheel position, with wheel fitted, i've done this style of car before and i'm going there again!!!!

The joys of mock up fab work. Measure ten times, then sit and look, measure another ten times then maybe cut!!!! Lol yes that patch work floor is going, to be replaced by framework and new floor 100mm higher. #channelled #lowslow #ratrod

Patch work floor to be replaced in ratrod. Body was on a car with separate chassis (as it still will be)

the floor is same both sides,

Slowly building framework up for body channel, same for other side then body will sit 5inches lower on chassis. Floor panels will be last so I can access underneath.

put body on its back, floor really is a mess.

then started cutting floor out.

Does the body have enough structure to cut the whole floor out without it distorting? Might be worth adding a few temporary braces?

not much progress yesterday,
cut floor pan out on other side,

welded where needed.

need to trim front of floor and finish welding.

once painted i will sit it back onto chassis and start making mountings to fix to original frontera body chassis mounts.
don't know whether to use original rubber mounts or metal to metal.

Title: Re: rebodied hotrod

a few alterations to do but to be expected as no way to know how it will sit until its all in.
doors not here until 10th, plenty to do though. body needs to be lower, body mounts once its in correct position, got frontera steering and pedals to fit.
brake lines to replace and some fuel lines. its nice not having to deal with suspension and chassis work, but i have got electrics to do as engine is fuel injection. going to see if i can delete transfer box and propshaft. really want to take out front axle(seperate hubs like a fwd) but that can wait. got an idea for exhaust, most will hate it(which i like)  most are going to hate the whole thing anyway :D ;D

Nah, it kinda makes sense. They're very simple bolt together panels, but not very curvy. Loony's got Flap's old Landy, (series 3 maybe?), but I've never looked in the engine bay -is there some sort of framework to support the panels or are they self supporting?
There's a big Landover show somewhere in the Midlands isn't there? If all else fails, you must be able to buy repro parts.

I can see it. Transition tween front of doors and wing might take some work. Remember that original series Land rover panels aren't aluminium  but Birmabright BB2 or BB3, an alloy of aluminium, manganese and magnesium. So take more care to anneal before trying to reshape anything as it work hardens really easily.

Title: Re: rebodied hotrod

Me too. The tops of P4 wings are quite flat front to back. It's the front/sides that have all the curves. Think a 90/110 grill and front panel might be easier to mate to the bonnet but wouldn't be quite so distinctive.

That was a lot of packaging for a box of light bulbs.  :D

Wings look ok,  had a measure and everything looks like it will fit with a bit of fettling
What's legality of 3 head lights? Middle one for main beam only.

Title: Re: rebodied hotrod
Post by: Olds on October 17, 2018, 06:43:50 PM
Nope, as far as I know you can't do a central main beam.  But....The P4 Rover Cyclops (up to 52) had a spotlight mounted centrally in the grill and there doesn't seem to be anything in the modern IVA manual with reference to front spotlights so you might be OK, as long as it's switched with warning lamp and can only work with main beam.

:) The Post Office depot I work at has just scrapped several vans. They were 10 years old & needed over £1000 worth of work to pass the MOT, but were only valued at £600.

right back onto the proper project.

bonnet bolted to hinges after freeing them off.

with door in the hole, started trimming wings and its not going to take too much work to look half decent.

Apparently when LandRover changed from metal to plastic, the Aussie market complained cos they used to take them off & use them as BBQ racks! :)

going to need a name for it. wings, doors, bonnet and rear tub will be raw aluminium, cab will be purple. rover p4 cab & bonnet. with the rest being series land rover parts.

just reached my free limit on photo hosting site........bugger.

Removed chequer  plate from wing top, bit rough under but no bigy.
wing sitting in better position now, will sit about 3 inches lower than on tape, with bumper sitting lower.
looks like panels will clean up ok. sorry for lots of pics.

I think I'd just run a couple of horizontal slats across the rad opening -nothing too complicated, & my vote would be for a single colour on the lot -but that's why it's your build & not mine :)
"Junkyard Dog" surely, as it's made from a mixture of Rover parts?

Series 3 grill, which will have 2/3rds removed,
and bottom off bonnet shut line will be folded upwards so bonnet sits flat on wings.

this is the wheels i was going to use, frontera alloys i was planning to spray matt black.
thinking the 15" modular steels will look better or l200 steel wheels.

also wing needs to be moved back by a few inches.

Firm believer of KISS(keep it simple stupid).
Seriously thinking of swapping the Jeep in for a Series Land Rover, purely because of it's lack of modern technology (that I can't understand and don't need).

It turns over, after being bought as an unknown,  sat on the floor for God knows how long. Reportedly under 60k miles but I took that with a pinch of salt.  A gearbox adaptor plate has been ordered, as ford type9 gearbox are now heading north of 500 notes each for a known good one.
