Title: ,,EMILY,,
Post by: spanners on September 28, 2012, 10:51:26 PM
well  ,,EMILY,, is the name of my latest project a 1936 austin ten pickup
the name,,EMILY,, has come from the name of one of the very first owners (she was owned by two sisters ,,well we think they were sisters,) i have the original  ,,cancelled,, buff logbook with her,,a nice touch to be able to trace her back to when she was new..

,,EMILY,, austin is due home  when i,ve sorted out her garage but at the moment i,m rather busy sorting out ,,wonderland etc,,

Wizz's boyfriend's one is the same colour, (same pale green I'm going for on mine too!), but is a 1930s Ford Model A.
Didn't Spanners say this one's actually grey, not green?

cheers just put em on watch ,, not 100% which way i,m going on the hub cap /wheel front as yet  were on ford PCD, wanted to go deep dish smoothie,s on rear and narrower smoothie,s on front with ford type hub caps in centre (mk2 tina ,corsair type) but may have a better way up of the wheels she,s on as they are new ,, and i may make some centre hubcaps to fit them as they have outer chrome rims,,

What are you wanting to do go skiny or just the steel and chrome hub cap look.?
Skiny what about ford  focus space saver rims like i use on the  sporting car traler they are 15s and will take a 165/80 x 15 verdestien spot on.

they come in 15s and 16s some dont even need painting red.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ford-Focus-15-Space-Saver-/261097730676?pt=UK_CarParts_Acc_Wheels_tyres_Rims_Car_Wheels_ET&fits=Car+Make%3AFord|Model%3AFocus&hash=item3ccaa33274

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ford-Focus-98-04-15-Inch-Space-Saver-Steel-Biscuit-Wheel-/280976808059?pt=UK_CarParts_Acc_Wheels_tyres_Rims_Car_Wheels_ET&hash=item416b85d87b

or 16s if you must.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ford-focus-genuine-space-saver-TR125-85r16-99M-/290779057016?pt=UK_CarParts_Acc_Wheels_tyres_Rims_Car_Wheels_ET&fits=Car+Make%3AFord|Model%3AFocus&hash=item43b3c84b78

they take a 165 too and they stay on at low presure on the trialer with a deep bead on the rim.

its the steel and chrome hub cap look i,m really after the wheels on her dont look quite right to me i,v got to mk1 tina wheels at wonderland that would do for skinny fronts if i went that route theyve got brand new crossplys on which i wont be using ,must be good to some one ,,
when she,s home i,m going to look if i can make ford hub caps fit the wheels on her  you got any hubcaps ,, north ? :)

Title: Re: ,,EMILY,,
Post by: The North on October 01, 2012, 09:56:06 PM
The cor :D Tina wheels will be 13s wont they be too small for that ? you want bigish diam wheels dont you at least 15 or 16s ?

Title: Re: ,,EMILY,,
Post by: The North on October 01, 2012, 10:59:25 PM
Well yes but even then 13s a bit small don't you think, 14s would be better.
No i got no hub caps, i do have some devon 16s and they are ford stud spacings. but was keeping them in case i ever wanted to use them on the Devon, but i suppose they could go at the Right money or barter..  ;)

That sounds like a plan be good amount of logs there. Not sure you will definitely need them this year the weather is a little odd to say the least, one min it looks like its winter here then its warm then spring showers. Its all over the place.

Got to agree with Mr North on the wheel size Mike.
13s would be awfully small on the front. O.K on a modern car, but these older jobbies were designed for bigger wheels &, in my very humble opinion, look a bit out of proportion if you go too small.
If it helps, I've got 15s on the front of my truck & 16s on the back.
I know they'd cost you 200 quid +, but wouldn't it be easier just to buy new steel "Smoothies" for it?

dont want to drag her (on trailer) over 100 miles in the wet ,,,then have her out doors untill garage is sorted  ,, so weve delayed it for a week

exhuast headers done fit the cyl head studs and dont line up with anything correctly ,rad mounts are cocked -up to,,,

suppose some paople try to build without practical knowledge,,

all in all its alot of re-working,,,,but with alot of stuff thats allready ther,,

It looks good, I liked the look of it when i noticed it for sale. Its going to look the part once you get it done. Cant get the true scale of it from the pictures. What size is it, like a close comparison on a known medel.

wheels are 15 inch rims i think (without checkin) rear tyre,s are 295,s
the trailer deck is 15ft,6,  by 6ft,  the alloy ramps under the front are just over 7ft long ,, the rear body tube is about 3ft 8 or 10 long
that may give you some idea of her size.
she started out as an austin ten sherbourne.

One of those bizarre facts my memory throws out from time to time -I can't remember what I did yesterday, but I remembered a scene from The Who's rock opera Tommy, that featured Tommy's parents in the Blitz -& a wrecked Austin in the background. I thought it was a Ruby, but it's an Austin Ten!

Odd coincidence -the same film featured Elton John & the Who performing the song Pinball Wizard -which was the name of the Ford Pop that hit the show scene the year before the film came out & first sparked my love of custom cars. I now own a Ford Pop & Taz owns one of the old V8 engines from the Wizard.

:) ;) And spanners has the car from the film.  ;D ;D ;D

just thinking about it being said about the car in the film ,, mine has been through the war,/wars, it even has a real bullet hole in the rad grill shell  :o looks like a 303 bullet hole where the old badge used to be ,,it seems a shame that the replacement badge will cover it up ,,

Leave the hole, as such  its the cars charecter.

been well, busy sorting out major problems,, but engine seems good  alot of lost time has gone into making ,leccy, wata swatta fit,, and she now holds watta,, fuel is now plumbed,, and temp loom/test loom is almost good enough so if i plumb the brakes,,fit a gear shifte and throttle etc ,etc, we maybe to have a ,,,around the grass,, test run this weekend  ;) ;)

bit more done ,,more problems found  ::)

fitted B&M shifter to the bracket that came with the car   the b#stard rattle,s youre knuckles on the dashboard when it selects ,park,, and the trans tunnel ,flexes,,

made up new battery and starter leads ,,but had to go and buy new batt terminals as i couldnt find the ones i had,
had to make cable clips outa some copper as no one had anything suitable in stock  ::)

throttle pedal aint gonna fit where or how it should  ::)

brake pedal to servo ,pushrod, flexes, so will have to be re-designed  ::)

oh, well just a bit more to add to the growing list

nearly everyone whos seen her in the flesh asks what colour am i going to paint her  ::)
three people think she,s in primer, its actually top coat thats been flatted back .. i think i,ll stick with the colour and add some black detailing . a bit along the lines of the original car ..

Title: Re: ,,EMILY,,
Post by: spanners on November 10, 2012, 09:50:13 PM
put just over 12hrs into her today ,,had her running and warmed through  :) carbs allover the place but can be sorted  ;)
as for braking system  :o i wish people that dont understand em wouldnt play with em ,,fancy fitting new cylinders and shoes to rusty siezed backplates and adjusters  ::)(the outside has been ,blasted, and panted but the internals was grotty ,, the brake servo was wrong fitted and didnt even line up with the brake push rod and i fond five of the brake pipe ends had the wrong flare .. so i,ve re-done the lot just the rear axle pipes to do in the morning when i build the rear brakes back up (wet paint stopped progress tonight)
throttle pedal mounting and cable to remake and fit tommorrow, and some wheel studs and nuts to source to correct yet another fault

basically i bought a kit with have the wrong parts ,bodged, on  ::) ::) ::)

but we have the technology, lol,, (old school )

well i got the ,,scrappy, exhausts (ex cobra) on monday .
so i decided that i,d do enough to get her drivable (around the grass) and turn her round so that i,d have more room to make some exhausts up outa the bits i,v accumulated  ::)
temp wiring loom sorted ,elec watta swatta sorted,, fuel lines sorted,, B&M shifter modded and fitted for the 3rd time, sorted,  brakes working sorted,,auto trans sorted,,
so i fired her up all was well, ::) ::)or so i thought  :o :o wet overall legs,,, :o red stuff all over the garage,,,,,bloody trans cooler loop pipe had ffffffing well burst >:( >:( >:(
so quick shut down,, big clean up ,, and make a new / temprey pipe,,
then the gran kids turned up  so that was it for today, :( :(

and the front suspension is a ,total, disaster,,

unsafe  unfit for any sort of use at all,, but at a glance when purchasing ::) looked like a few bits needed setting up  ::)how wrong was i  ?

just come back in from ,,EMILY,,S,, den (the garage) its bloody freezing  minus2 got fed up when the front suspension trapped my digits for the third time tonight  ::)
i now need a differant steering rack as this one is about three inch,s to wide and is part of the ,bump steer problems i,m having,,
remounted the rear axle so thats safe and even looks better  :)
had to cut of and remount one of the front lower wish bone,s as it had been welded on squiffy  ::)
lots of wrong size and fitting bolts have been used by the previous owner so by the time i,v finished i think i,ll have replaced every single nut ,bolt, and screw on her ,,
even the rear body is going to get ,junked, and remade as it aint squarely built and only fits where it touch,s ..

anybody got a narrow steering rack (20 inch,s knuckle to knuckle) kicking about ,,

Right what's this carb problem you mentioned elsewhere?
hi, kev its hard to explain but everytime i run it and warm it up it runs totally differant  ::)
i,m running it on the pipe work that came with it and it has a 3/8ths copper pipe from the tank to the mechanical lift pump and a return from the lift pump back to the tank but thats only 3/16ths (brake pipe size) i,m wondring if its part of the problem? ,as the mixtur tends to varie quite abit and the choke is an odd set up (odd to me   ::) as it works of vacume temp on the inlet manifold,, i,m sorley tempted to make a manual conversion (if only temporey)
the mixture variation is so bad at times that i,ve had black soot smoke out of the exhuast at on point,,, and bright blue flame,s at another ,
i can,t run it at the moment as i,v got other bits of it,, but before i run it again i,m going to clean the carb out and blow the jets through,

Hi Mike dont the fuel return pipe come off the carb and not the pump. ???
hi terry , thats the unesual thing about it  its factory made return from the top of the mechanical pump but its a smaller bore than the carb feed , it seems to me as though the carb is getting to much or varieing fuel pressure ,, ::)
may try running it on a gravity feed and see if its any better ,,

Mike the third pipe goes to the fuel vapor canister. it has be some thing to do with fuel emission's you will need the manual to find out where they go

formed the ends the hard way,, :D piece of stainless exhaust pipe split and welded over the cut and shaped end,, the hardest bit was recessing the ,offset bulb holders that protrude out of the back of the lamp body,,

Nope, you don't need a letter to prove the date. They already have it on the logbook, it's simply that the vehicle hasn't been on the road since Historic was brought in. All I've ever done with change from PLG to Historic is take it to the local office when you tax it and they change the class and send it off. We've even had several who have paid for PLG and then DVLA have changed the class and automatically refunded the money.

The only catch is the LOs start to close from October this year and will be all gone by end of December, then things may change.

Is it down as pick up on the V5C yet ?

I spoke to DVLA Swansea and my local office last week and at that point they still had no idea as to who was going to take over the role of the LOs
Officially it's being taken over by "partners," like the PO do tax discs. Who these partners are no one seems to have a clue. or at least aren't saying.

terry , the whole system is nuts ,,i,v cut up and scrapped two trikes as they were wrongly registered death traps,, i even had a letter from DVLA about one of them, as some one tried to use the reg, number after i had cut it up..thats along story but he got prosicueted.
i just want to make the best of whats allowed,
but it dosnt help when certain people ,rattle,, DVLA,s cage  :-X not going to say who on an open forum, but it also relates to the ,karma, thing a few weeks back,, and a trike v5,not,,

[/quote]

The simple truth is....it`s not a 1936 Austin Ten anymore...it`s been altered and should undergo an inspection.
Andy made his hotrod based partially on the Ford, Emily is based on the Austin she is not as she left the factory.
Yes the `system` can be hard work but it`s there for a reason and while we may not all agree on it, we should all abide by it.
Yes I know you don`t wanna hear it Mike, but that`s how it is.

acording to what i can find out
,EMILY, had an offical inspection in 2001 for some reason ,, and she also had change,s noted ? but which or what change,s they were i,m unshure ,, but i do know that things like engine number and cc are correct with DVLA.

as far as the pick-up conversion, it was done well over twenty years ago ,,may even have been first done in the early 1940,s    ,war effort,, ?

Nope, DVLA have just renewed their contract with the Post Office for another 5 years but they are talking about doing away with physical tax discs ENTIRELY as they no longer serve any real purpose now everything is computerised. Just been a DVLA Consulation document about it all.

I've spoken with DVLA recently and there is no official confirmation of who is doing what when DVLA LOs close. However from info gleaned from various sources  it is mainly an internal matter of payment that seems to be the stumbling block. Most likley outcome will be VOSA will take on essential high security issues but much of the onus will be put on the owner paying for for official confirmations from Owners clubs on the authorised V765 list.

To answer others questions it is legal to modify ( CURRENTLY but may change in May) a Historic vehicle by changing components within the DVLA 8 points system. Once outside that it should go through BIVA. Vehicle modified prior to 1998 follow an entirely different set of rules ,as do vehicles prior to 1981 with yet another set of different rules.

Seems to be an issue with many carbs that if not started on a regular basis the float needle seems to stick ( something to do with the ethanol in the fuel I believe.  Remind me of what carbs you have on there and do you have a regulator+ fuel filter in the supply line ? Do you know if teh carbs are the correct OEM fitment or are they aftermarket ?

hi, kev , its the original carb ,,, rochester dual-jet 165,, original mechanical lift pump and an inline filter near to the tank, its an olds 260 v8 out of a cutlass ,,delta 88, ,omega,, or simerlar of around 1976 vintage,,
carb numbers as best as i can read them are either 2 or 7,  then 045156 m7,,then stamped seperate is 2804 ,,

Does it tickover OK and then play up if revved or is it lumpy and spitting back even on tickover ?

Does it tickover OK and then play up if revved or is it lumpy and spitting back even on tickover ?
it never actually ,spits back, through the carb , but it varies, it can run and tick over fine for age,s, but sometimes seems to lose a pot,but it will normally clear as you lift the revs ,but not allways  :-\
its seems good at high revs most of the time , but its obvious that the mixture varies almost uncontrollebly,
its got two mixture screws one on each venturey, but they were 6 1/2 turns out when i got it  actually so far out that the tension springs wern,t doing anything,
each time i run it its differant  ::) ::)
i darnt take it out on the road to try it as its so unprodictable, :o :o :o
i,v checked for all normal things like vac and air leaks ign,, ignition faults,, compression, etc ,etc,,
i,m really at my witts end with it  so,,so, many hours have gone into trying to sort  everything  else on this project out
and i,m now beaten by a f###ing carburettor  :o :o :o

and i was taught/brought up old school with carbs etc,,

If it's been flooding the first thing I'd do is get hold of afresh set of plugs. Modern stuff doesn't like being flooded and the ceramic soaks and then refuses to actually fire.

Now I may go over some stuff you've already tried ( or look like I'm trying to 'teach Grandma ..." but as it's still not working worth a double check.

1) Ensure static timing is correct and decent spark

2) Check firing order and also correct to rotor rotation ( easy one to get caught out on )

3) Check float level and by blowing down supply pipe that it is actually shutting off ( just had to readjust both float levels on mine even after running fine for 6 months )

4) Rule out pump pressure fluctuations and fuel supply problems by rigging up a gravity feed direct to carb.

5)Wind mixture screws all the way in and then 1.5 turns out

6) Remove throttle cable  rod so carb is standalone. Back of tickover screw so no contact with stop . Wind in until just touching and then in 1.5 turns.

7) Operate throttle by hand and check fine continuous stream of fuel from accelerator jets ( no more tha a couple of times so as not to flood plugs).

8) Now try to start , if it goes but runs ragged , check each plug by removing lead in turn.

9) Check whether fault is plug , lead or cylinder  by moving each in turn to see where the fault goes.

10) If plug(s) prove faulty replace full set .

11) If all working replace gravity fuel system with original and recheck running .Check and fettle

12) Refit throttle mechanism ,check and fettle

I won't number this one ;) ) Drive down road and fine tune ;)

Really is worth going back and rechceking with fresh eyes just to make sure .

Weak mixture will make it spit back as well as timing out or plug leads in wrong order.

You know what folks on here always say Mike - walk away for a while, don't think about it for a bit.

Then go back when you're not wanting to kick it, and make the decision in cold blood.

And if you do sell it, for god's sake get something that's roadworthy and you can have a bit of fun with!

yep that was last night i,m now awaiting the engine number and carb details etc ,, he says its a 305 olds but olds, didnt make a 305 ,they made a 307, chevy, made a 305,and a 350, and it isn,t either,,
i reckon its a 307 by the oil filler tube position in the front of the block above the timing cover ,, a trade mark of olds, and buick,,

well another ,kick, in the teeth today,,, :( :( jacked the front up to crawl under ,,, when i let the jack down,, the steering looked out of track again,, ??? ??? .
so ijacked it back up and things moved ,,, so i put it down to ,,bump steer,,,,
then i thought some more  ::)

so i measured some supension points with it sat on its wheels,
then jacked it up .
then measured them again,
:o then i found the problem  :o :o the supension turrets/top wishbone,,,top shocker mounts flex by upto 6mm  :o :o yet another thing that will have to be re-worked

he should be ok ,, he,s just had weetabix, squished up in warm milk for his supper as he missed out on his dinner and hadn,t had anything since last night,,

as for the suspension mod it involve some very heavy gauge steel welded into a cross member under the front of the sump conecting the suspension towers each side ,,,, ::) ::) sort of an upside down under sump strut brace  ::)

he,s turned into a bit of a recluse,, i even had to phone him from the gate to be let in ,,

but i seam to have made a new friend (i actually bought stuff of him twenty years ago from his garage buissiness)so i,ll be going back for more stuff and maybe another project when emily,s done ,, i spotted a few projects  ;) ;) ;) ;) ;)

had a real rough night ,,so not feeling too good , :'( :'(

so i,m sat here studying the ,tin-ter,net
trying to work out the actuall factory horse power for a 1978 oldsmobile 350,v8,, looked at so many web sites that i,v confused myself  ::)

Title: Re: ,,EMILY,,
Post by: Olds on May 24, 2013, 06:34:47 AM
Sorry you had a bad night spanners.
As for power output, I think that depends a lot on what the engine was fitted to, how it was measured, and how much exaggeration the advertising guys thought they could get away with. Till you put it on a rolling road it's rather academic.
Colour, if you want it to stand out, bright (but not light) red or yellow. Both will make the engine appear bigger than the blue or gold factory colours. If you are adding chrome or polished ally, this stands out better against the red.

Title: Re: ,,EMILY,,
Post by: scannerzer on May 24, 2013, 07:59:13 AM
Yep it would be red for me too

Title: Re: ,,EMILY,,
Post by: kapri on May 24, 2013, 09:13:19 AM
By 1978 most Yank motors had very poor bhp figures firstly as they rerated from SAE to DIN . Secondly because the emissions rule had come in and with smaller valves and 2 barrel carbbs fitted most simply won't rev. However torque ( what counts for on the street) figures are still good :)

Title: Re: ,,EMILY,,
Post by: spanners on May 24, 2013, 08:12:23 PM
this has a quadra-jet four barrel carb on it  so it should rev quite well  ;) ;)

the annoying thing now is a broken manifold to head bolt  :-\ at first i just thought there was a bolt missing ,,then i took the manifold of and had a ,poke,, and found the broken bit in the head  ::) ::)  just tried ,touching, it with a drill  and by ,christ,, its bl##dy hard  another little problem that may take an hour  or  a day to sort ,,

I'm with Kev there, I have used NGK for years with no problems. At one time we were sending 2 out of 10 champion plugs back so we stopped using them. (About 15 years ago) they could be OK now, but after that I'm not going to try.

That's what I found with Champions as well Tony . I gave up on Bosch when I had a set of 4 that would fire when tested outside the engine but ALL failed internally , 3 days on that one, thought I was going crazy(ier) .Gave them to the Bosch rep who said " Rubbish, can't happen" and put them in the bin ,wouldn't even send them for test to see why.

Can't be far off MOT time now can it? Actually, being pre 1960, I don't suppose it needs one does it.

she was on the road ,,briefly,, the week before basingstoke ,, all legal appart from mudgaurds  ;)

another day at it, ::) (bar a few hours lost doing family good deeds ) i,d forgot how hard it is cutting 10mm plate by hand  ::)
new crossmember not acked in  :) ,, but its left me with more problems ,,like,,, making new steering rack mounts,, and no room to put the electric water pump back where it was  ::) i even thought of changing to a mechanical belt driven pump but i,d have to move the rad forward nearly 5 inch,s .. so thats a no,,no,,

but i did get it running with jump leads of my daily ,,MEG,,,

she,s fighting me all the way  ::) ::)
engine mounts made,,, just about  everything bolted up ,had to buy a new  :o :o 3/8 unc tap as the other hasn,t re-appeared yet,
inhibitor switch decided to play silly b##gers,  >:(,, carb started flooding,, so another strip and clean was required ,, new fuel lines run in copper and properly clipped up along with a fuel shut off tap, saftey first and all that,, its also handy when it comes to changing the fuel filter , ;)
now the brake master cyl is playing up ,,and i,v noticed a drip from the auto trans whilst iv,e been working on her so that will have to be looked at ,,, more work,,,,

seat base is home made out of the cover and a little foam from a vauxhall astra rear seat ,, and the seat back is just a piece of plywood ,which is quite comfortable and there isn,t room for much else ,, no radio,,,, no heater,,, and only natural air conditioning ,,, :D :D(opening windscreen  8) 8) )

supposed to be a 2.8 capri ,,salsbury type,,

axle details of the ,tag, which was still attatched ,

3.88,  8A19      P75A84004  CB

can anybody shed any light on what it actually is , :-\

Title: Re: ,,EMILY,,
Post by: kapri on June 17, 2013, 12:05:04 PM
It's not a Capri 2.8i axle with a 3.88 ratio , they were 3.02 from memory ,part number on tag is actually P75 AB 4004  CB . 1975 signified first year of use in vehicle so it's a Mk 2 Capri from a low power model , 1600 ohc I reckon as 2 litres use a 3.7 ratio .Spider gears are always the weak link in Ford axles.

They won't last with anything approaching a hard launch with that amount of torque. Sidestep a clutch on a Pinto with English back axle and kiss your spider gears goodbye , so won't survive long ,if at all :(

What sort of overall gearing do you want in top and how tall are your tyres?
tyre size is 295/50/15. standing 26inch,s high and on ford four stud
the diff ratio seemed rather low and this engine has tons n, tons of bottom end grunt ,,also the auto box tends to change up into top before 30mph (approx) i havn,t got a rev counter on it so i,m unshure what actual revs she,s doing,

Title: Re: ,,EMILY,,
Post by: kapri on June 17, 2013, 05:24:16 PM
Tallest geared Ford 4 stud axle is the  Capri 2.8 i ( as you believed was fitted) would make approx 4 mph per 1000 rpm in top difference to existing set upon standard Capri tyres . Tyre size gives you another approx 1.5 mph per 1000 over a standard 2.8 gearing . So something like 24 mph per 1000 in 1:1 top gear.

2.8 Capri axle is well built but I've no idea of it's torque limit but standard V6 is around 150 /160 ft /lbs.

i,m wondering if a scimitar axle would be a good option

Title: Re: ,,EMILY,,
Post by: kapri on June 17, 2013, 09:16:48 PM
Scimitar axle is based on Jag Mk2 so is Salisbury 4ha .I think the ratio is around 3.5 .Most common models are Se5 and Se6 with the 6 having a wider track ( from memory)

EDIT, forgot to say that although a 4 stud it is MGB pattern.

Yup, common belief but trust me, it's MGB pattern for some strange reason, should restud easy enough though. .I had a Scimitar Se6 about 12 months back.

Title: Re: ,,EMILY,,

well that leaves two options for now

2.8 capri ,,the easiest option =straight fit.

scimitar  a little more work ,

Or a LDV 200 axle 3.9/1

Title: Re: ,,EMILY,,
Post by: spanners on June 17, 2013, 10:24:16 PM
LDV 3.9 is way too low,
the dead axle was a bit low at 3.88  so it needs to be atleast a 3.54 or even a 3.1,

Title: Re: ,,EMILY,,
Post by: kapri on June 17, 2013, 11:05:40 PM
A 3.54 will give approx 1.5 mph/1000 extra in 1:1 compared to 3.88.

well according to the above if i,v understood it correctly and also according to what revs i,v been told is safe for the engine ,
a 2.8 capri axle using the tyres i have now should give me a topspeed of 120mph at 5000rpm..

i think that,ll be quick enough  ;) :o

Yup, same as any chassied car can but within the rules ie no chassis mods .You could easily stick something like a small Austin body on. Doesn't matter what mateys chimp says if it is done within the system they can't refuse. However utilising only the piece of paper carries a rather large  fine or porridge diet at teh extremes.

In the process of changing the headlights for some period ones, larger in diameter and with a deeper bowl, nearly done, will post pics next week, and see what you all think

Hope this works, I think it just looks better with the larger light ...I know it's a personnel choice. Had no reason to change anything else

Yes, that works for me  :)  -&  some tall skinny crossplies & a nice old fashioned beam axle with transverse spring -oh wait ...that's mine!
Looks great.  ;)

As Mike says....it's all tucked up awaiting my return .....will see what the weather is like before I decide to bring her out. Still like the way it is and I don't want to or have to change anything more on it ..the larger lights do look better I think

All going well until today ......now I can go forward in all selector positions, and no reverse ...I'm hoping it's a selector problem unless anyone knows different.

It's a th350 auto transmission it has been stood for a while, was driving fine untill this afternoon now every position just gives me forward drive

check fluid level  before panicking she may have lost a drop whilst being stood

Repaired and running again lol ...the nut that hold the selector inside the box had worked loose, and then the S clip had dropped off, hence it was not moving the DCV rod in the housing. Its something I will be checking in a few months time.

So i now have the question, should I thread lock this nut in position next time it happens or next time I change the filter. ......or leave well alone

Lol already started it Mike, the 35 is in the the workshop having the chassis sorted, but it's on a spare time rota.

Emily had a small problem once I found out what it was, I thought it may need the box out and everything, but it's turned out to be such a small thing,....new filter oil and gaskets as you would and it's all done, and even repairing it was fun

Starting to look into the history of this car, does anyone know anything if it's history ... ;) I was told DVLA has know about this car for a long time, as the major changes happen many years ago

Title: Re: ,,EMILY,,
Post by: Olds on September 26, 2017, 06:24:11 AM
Getting proof of when changes were done might be difficult. I hear that DVLA are no longer issuing vehicle information (histories) V888 but could be wrong.

Title: Re: ,,EMILY,,
Post by: l j shaw on September 26, 2017, 02:11:39 PM
Was informed that this is well known to the DVLA but due countless photo and letters they still will not agree that it's a pick up ?? And this has been going on before the rules where even considered ...it's just a belt and braces thing really
